Long-term weather forecasters and the NOAA have predicted 2006 Atlantic tropical hurricane season will be one of the largest on records and perhaps could rival the 2005 Atlantic tropical hurricane season and if this is the case you need to prepare your family for such a potentially eventuality and perhaps even an extended tropical hurricane season.
Even if you have enough food and decide to refuse the mandatory evacuation that is required by law in your region, you still have to worry about the power and water supplies being out for weeks on end. This means you'll need a way to make sure that your appliances have the power they need to run and operate.
You will of course need the minimize such usage, for instance turning on a portable generator every so often to keep the refrigerator cool and the food in the freezer frozen. You may also need a way to cook food and you'll need extra gasoline or diesel fuel for fuel your generator depending on which type of fuel the uses.
You must also check the rating on your generator and the amount that your appliances take because if your generator only puts out a certain number of watts or amps it may not be able to run your refrigerator. And this means even if you have a generator you still will not be able to use it to keep your food cool.
Please consider a back-up power systems such as a portable generator in advance of any hurricane storm. Once hurricane season gets well on its way many times the portable generators that are being built are backlogged and that means you will not be able to purchase one. Plan ahead and protect your family and consider this in 2006.
