Electric Water Heaters Have Heating Elements That Can Fail: Here's How To Deal With Them Quickly

Description of What an Element Is
Most electrical heaters, though not all, have two elements. One on the upper half of the tank and one on the lower half of the tank. These elements can be either high-watt or low-watt elements. Heaters are made so that the lower element works most of the time. The upper element comes on only when a large amount of water is used inside the tank. Elements rarely come on at the same time. Compartments on the side of the tank are where you can find the location of the elements. These compartments have thermostats although the upper element usually doesn't have a thermostat. The upper element is preset to be 120 degrees. It shuts off at 190 degrees if it ever reaches that high. There is a red reset button at the compartment which can turn the element back on if it overheats the circuit. If you only have one element it will be at the bottom of the tank and act like the upper element I just described. Thermostats work for many years on water heaters with usually no problems.

Sediment
Sediment build-up occurs very slowly, usually over several years. In an electric water heater, this can be detected by a bad sulphur odor or by lower electrical element burnout. The lower element is in the lower half of the water heater and is the apparatus that heats the water inside. Sediment inside the tank can pile up so high that the lower element is buried in it like an avalanche of hard snow. This causes it to overheat and burnout. Your showers and hot water will run out in half the time they used to if this happens.

There are two types of heating elements; a high-watt and a low-watt heating element. Which one you have inside the tank can cause sediment to produce faster or slower. The low-watt heating element is far superior. It has twice as much surface area and is not nearly as hot as a high-watt element. The lower heat still heats the water just as fast but produces far less sediment. If you ever replace a bad element, install a low-watt element in its place.

Elements are either bolted or screwed in to the water heater. They both come with a rubber or plastic water-tight gasket as well. If you remove the element for cleaning, install a new gasket as well, especially if the old one is hardened. If you have screw in heating elements, wrap the threads in teflon tape. Remember to turn off the power before working on elements. Immersion of the element in sediment can cause it to fail. Also, sediment can itself encrust around an element. Galvanic corrosion can cause an element to fail as well. It's rare that enough sediment would encrust itself around an element to cause it to burn up. Sediment usually flakes off an element naturally, but then the lower element can be buried. High-watt elements almost never encrust with sediment and make most sediment slough off to the bottom of the heater. A low-watt element may become encrusted with sediment though. I still recommend the low-watt density element for all its other benefits. If you have problems with elements burning out often, they may be cleaned. A toothbrush and some vinegar is all that is needed to clean elements. Galvanic corrosion can also occur between the copper sheath of the electrical element and its steel tank surroundings. This causes the joint to rust. The anode rod inside should protect against this problem. If you replace elements and they only last a few months, then the anode rod may be at fault and not the element.

And not only is it technologically advanced it is looks great with some of the best craftsmanship around.

Inside you will find their exclusive fire brick lining. This provide superior heating - distributing the heat evenly and retaining the heat for much longer. It also offers traditional gas burners on the grill as well as infrared burners which are state of the art.

Made from commercial grade stainless steel this grill is going to provide you with years of performance. It has as many as six individually controlled gas burners, built in rotisserie, and infrared back burner. There is more than 1100 square inches of cooking surface on these grills - now that's impressive!

Great but what's on the outside? You are greeted with a 16 gauge 304 stainless steel exterior that has been hand finished. It is ergonomically designed and it has a continuous firing electronic igniter for easy lighting. The convection vents give great even heat distribution and there's a drip pan that's completely removable. Now that's neat and tidy.

Altima is known for the quality grills they build and these grills have a reputation for their durability. But they not only last forever they look great too! The refined appearance is an Altima trademark. You'll find no visible bolts or welds or other seams that detract from the beauty of your grill. In fact it stands the Altima out from the rest.

The triple cooking system is the most versatile and unique system currently on the market. No other manufacturer has anything like it. It combine all three favorite cooking fuels - charcoal, infrared burners, and gas burners - into one piece of equipment. Now you don't have to decide what type of cooking this meal will be.

The fire brick interior absorbs heat and slowly radiates it evenly across the cooking surface. The removable tray that comes with all Amana grills lets you burn either wood or gas.

The infrared burner which is mounted on the back of the grill gives you extra browning space and the rotisserie is there for you any time you need it.

There are some pros and cons to the Amana Grill. It looks great with the stainless design and the pricing is definitely fine. It has a high BTU output so you'll have no problem cooking up any meal you want. The disadvantage is with the low price comes a low grade of stainless steel and there are many plastic parts. The metal is thin throughout so don't expect it to last forever.

Sureheat makes the Amana gas grill for the mass market. You can buy it for around $400 but if you shop around you might even do better than that.

Gas Grills

The gas grill is one of the most popular types of grills used by people today. This type of grill is the easiest to use, and is generally cleaner than using coal or wood. The gas grill is ideal for cooks with little or no experience with outdoor cooking.

A main appeal for using a gas grill over a coal grill is its capability to light quickly and easily. With a coal grill, you will need lighter fluid, matches and newspaper to light the initial fire. After you have successfully lit the flame you need to wait for the coals to get hot before you can begin cooking. This is a long and difficult process for those who are not used to grilling. With a gas grill, you open the gas valve of your gas tank, and then set the flame to your desired level.

Another appeal is the cleanliness of gas grills. With coal and wood grills, after you have finished cooking and the fire is out, you need to clean out the ashes left behind by the charcoal. Unlike a gas grill, after you have finished cooking the only thing you need to do is to turn off the flame and close the tank valve. You don’t have to worry about cleaning out a pit full of ashes.

The convenience of gas grills comes at a big price. This type of grill is far more expensive than charcoal grills. Most people however are more than willing to pay the extra money for a gas grill. With the importance placed in today’s society in grilling, it is not surprising that people are willing to pay the extra money for the ability to quickly and easily cook outdoors.

Bosch Into Everything, Bosch Into Fridges

Bosch has been a key pioneer in the field of consumer household devices (and not only!) for many years. During the last years, Bosch has not only managed to keep up with the stiff competition of the field but they have also managed to stay on the top spots, innovate and always with the ability to deliver top quality products. Below, I’m going to tell you about 2 of Bosch’s best consumer fridges, the Bosch KGU31125g and the Bosch KVG28325.

Starting off with the KGU, the first thing that you would be surprised off about this fridge is that it’s really, really silent! This fridge is so silent that you would hardly notice its presence if it wasn’t for its vast, physical existence. The fridge by itself is divided into 2 ‘floors’ with 2 doors positioned in a vertical setup. Although the size of the fridge is considerable, it’s pretty easy to install and use. The size also accounts for a very satisfying interior space witch will fit the needs of the most demanding customers. Some good extra points about this fridge are brought by the fact that it comes with a 2 year warranty by the manufacturer and you can also purchase additional warranty for the coming years. Another special feature that you will not miss for sure is a useful bottle rack that this fridge comes with. Regarding the price, this is a very affordable fridge and if you don’t mind the fact that it doesn’t come with a fancy color then this is something you should definitely keep your eyes on when the time has come to buy a new fridge.

Jumping on the KVG now, there are many things to tell about this fridge. First of all, like the KGU this is a very silent fridge. The KVG features a large - capacity interior design witch is divided into different temperature zones. Apart from that, the KVG features a fantastic fast freeze switch witch will cool the freezer up to -35 degrees C. Another good point about the KVG is that it has 6 shelf slots and 3 shelves. The shelves are made out of glass and this is something that will help you a lot when you are trying to see the contents of the fruit baskets. Regarding other aspects of the fridge, a good feature is the 2 built-in wheels that will enable you to easily maneuver it. You might want to consider the anti-frost feature that this fridge lacks but apart from that everything is almost perfect

How to be Cost Effective When Buying a New Water Heater: Bottom Line, Save Money

You can do many things to keep an old heater going and make it last as long as possible. You can also buy a new tank with the latest technologies that can be more effective than sprucing up the old water heater. Which to do? A cost analysis can help figure out what would be a more productive course of action. Just figure out the savings of the old equipment and compare the cost of the new equipment with purchase price and energy savings. It's best to find ways to save energy and money with cheaper ideas like new low-flow showerheads, heat traps, insulation, vent dampers, or a water heater blanket. You could also adjust your thermostat down as well.

Maintaining old equipment saves the cost of new equipment, obviously. If you can double the life of your heater, you would save a bundle on not purchasing a new heater. The best thing to do is to perform money saving activities on your water heater and then with the saved money, you can upgrade to a new system.

A cost cycle consists of operating costs, fuel costs, and purchase price. To figure out the cost cycel you need the:

Purchase price

Cost of energy or your utility bill

The yearly energy cost to use the appliance which can be found on the EnergyGuide label.

The estimated life of the appliance. For electric and gas water heaters that should be on average 13 years.

A discount number which is adjusted for inflation. The discount factor is 0.83 for both an electric and a gas water heater.

Help In Choosing A Central Air Conditioner

Central air conditioners set the standard in today’s air conditioning market. Besides helping to keep you cool, they also filter and dehumidify the air around you. This is really beneficial if you have problems with allergies or even asthma.

Before buying a central air conditioner, you need to know which size air conditioner you need. This will all depend on the size of the room that needs to be cooled. To determine the right size air conditioner for you, you should get in touch with a contractor. A contractor can quickly determine which size air conditioning unit is right for you by using the “manual j” calculation method.

When shopping for central air conditioners, you’ll find that they have different seer ratings. Seer stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, this lets you know just how efficient the air conditioner is. Newer air conditioners probably won’t have a seer rating below 13. However, some of the older units that are still around and were installed many years ago could have a seer rating as low as 7.

If you’re planning on replacing an older model for a more modern central air conditioning unit, you could actually save large sums in cooling bills. It’s estimated that upgrading an air conditioner that as a seer of 11.5 to a unit with a seer of 13 might save you around $500 on electric bills each year!

As well as making sure you choose an air conditioner that is the correct size, care needs to be taken where the unit should be installed. Where you position you’re air conditioner could affect how efficient it will be. If it gets enclosed by much vegetation then the air won’t be able to flow freely enough

Used Appliances

Very often, one need not waste money on new appliances – used ones can do just as well, provided they are in the right condition and have been maintained well. Many a time, one can save a considerable amount of money with a late model, reconditioned appliance.

Before buying a used appliance, it is important to gather information about the used product. By reading consumer magazines and contacting consumer organizations before making a major purchase, you will be better informed and make a better choice.

You can go online to look for used appliances. There are several sites that offer quality, used appliances with limited warranties. In fact, there are sites that are dedicated to second hand buying and selling. Many of these appliances are scratched, dented or reconditioned and are sold at very low prices.

If you go to a local used appliance shop or purchase a used appliance from an individual, it is important that you thoroughly clean the piece that you purchased. You can do this by mixing up a batch of white vinegar and water for smaller appliances. This gets rid of stains in coffee makers and odors as well. For larger appliances, bleach mixed with water should do the trick. For cleaning ovens, (if they are not self-cleaning) a regular oven cleaner is advisable. Just make sure that the stove that you purchase is in good shape. If the oven is too dirty, it might not be in working order, or it may be too difficult to eliminate all the grease and build-up, especially in the broiler area. Look for clean, used appliances, and you’re probably going to have better luck as far as future wear and tear goes

Dryer Repair Tips

You toss your load into the dryer set the timer and walk away. You return to grab your work pants and get ready only to discover the dryer isn’t performing like it should. Here’s some dryer repair tips to help you get your dryer working again.

If it isn’t working at all there are a few things you can try.

1. No Power
Make sure that the power cord is plugged in. Unplug and plug it back in. Check the breakers to make sure it hasn’t tripped or that a fuse is not blown. You can also use a volt meter to check the plug itself to make sure there is power going to the plug.

2. Door Switch
In the door is a switch or sensor that when you close the door it presses against a lever which then activates a door switch which allows the dryer to start up. If that lever becomes broken the switch can’t activate and then the dryer can’t start. You may need to replace this lever.

3. Thermal Fuse
Almost every dryer on the market has a thermal fuse. This fuse will burn out if the dryer overheats. When this happens one of two things occur. The dryer either completely stops working or it runs but it doesn’t throw any heat. You will usually find this fuse under the vent duck inside the dryer. If the fuse is blown you will want to replace it.

4. Defective Timers
Occasionally the timer on a dryer can be defective so that even if you have turned the dryer on it doesn’t recognize the motion and thus the dryer doesn’t start.

If there is no heat there are a few things you can try.

1. Gas Valve Coils
If the igniter glows but then shuts off before it ignites the gas chances are the problem is a coil that is defective. Replace all of the coils – there are usually at least a couple and sometimes more. It is also possible that the gas valve itself needs to be replaced.

2. Thermal Fuse
If the dryer overheats the thermal fuse will burn out with means your dryer will either not run at all or it will run but not throw any heat. Look on the vent duct inside the dryer – this is where you will normally find the fuse. Replace it.

3. Igniter
The igniter can be defective or because it is so fragile it can easily become broken. You should never touch the igniter except for the ceramic part.

4. Flame Sensor
This sensor is near the igniter and you will need to replace it if it is defective or worn out.

If your dryer blows heat but takes far too long to dry the clothing there are a few things you can check.

1. Vents
Check the vent hose and vent itself to make sure there are no clogs. Lint accumulates inside the dryer and if you don’t clean out the dryer regularly it lands up in the vent pipe itself which reduces the efficiency of the dryer and increases the fire risk.

2. Thermostat
A dryer has a thermostat that regulates the heating cycles and this thermostat can burn out over time or it can be defective. It’s very easy to replace and should be readily available.

Salt Grinders

xThere is nothing like salt that adds to the taste of a dish. When this is ground freshly and added to the dish, it enhances the taste of the dish. Pepper grinders and salt grinders are used for this purpose. These grinders are commonly used now. They are used by chefs in hotels, in houses or in any place where salt is used.

Salt grinders basically contain two parts: the outer part and the inner part. The inner part is the salt mill which actually grinds the salt. This is made of stainless steel or any other material which will not be corroded by the moisture content in the salt. The salt mill consists of two metal burrs which when rotated refines the salt. The outer part covers the salt mill and makes the unit attractive. These outer coverings may be made of plastic, wood, ceramic, stainless steel, or glass. They are made in various sizes shapes and colors to make the appliance look attractive. So, no matter what your taste is, you can always get a salt grinder that suits your taste and needs.

Salt grinders have become common household articles and they can be purchased at retail outlets, departmental stores, and grocery shops. The softness or coarseness of the salt can be varied by adjusting a lever at the bottom of the grinder. The price range varies from $10 to $120. There are different types of grinders available for various salt types like sea salt, ocean salt, and black salt. Since salt and pepper go hand in hand, they are available in sets also. These sets are very good gift articles. The handmade ones are very popular. These handmade sets are unique in their design, size, shape, and material used. One important thing to be noted here is that these two grinders should not be interchanged, as their inner components vary.

How to Choose the Best Juicer

What makes a juicer best?

The quality of the juice? The price?

There are a fleet of juicers hoping to claim “the best juicer” title. The fact is, all juice is not created equal. The quest to find the best juicer boils down to getting what you pay for. A juicer review will list the best juicer, according to consumer opinion, as the most expensive.

The taste and quality of the juice is directly related to the juicer you are juicing with. Speaking as an avid juice lover, I have earned my juice wings with a cheap juicer and, after deciding I wanted better juice and ability to do more than just juice- I bought a better, more expensive juicer.

There are a few points to consider when making a juicer choice. The most common complaint with all juicers- from juicer best to juicer worst- is the clean-up process. This is across the board regardless of price. Everybody wants healthy juice but nobody wants to clean the juicer. The inventor of the self-cleaning juicer will be rich and famous!

For my needs, the tipping point to determining the best juicer in any juicer review is the quality of the juice.

Centrifugal juicers are the least expensive (and lower quality, in my opinion), and excellent for “beginners”, those who won’t juice very often but just want an occasional glass of juice. The more you juice, the more you will tend to value having a good juicer- which may mean a more expensive one.

For example, there is a big difference between juicing with, say, a Juiceman brand juicer and a Green Star Juicer. We want the best juicer simply because we want the best juice.

The masticating juicers and twin-gear juicers are more expensive but make a better tasting juice and are more versatile.

The bottom line is this- the best juicer is relative to your own needs. Are you interested in making fruit juices or vegetable juices, or both?

As long as your juice needs are being met, you are juicing with the best! Is my juicer best? Absolutely! Because it serves my purpose, and I get exactly what I want.

Here’s hoping you find not just the best juicer, but the best juicer for you.

Barbecue Grills

There has been some debate over which type of barbecue grill is better, gas or charcoal. Out of all the grills available for consumer use, the charcoal grill is the least expensive. This type of grill has at least four advantages over gas grills. Charcoal grills cook hotter than gas grills, and you can burn wood in the charcoal pit giving more flavor to the meat.

There are also some disadvantages. Charcoal grills are messy and require more work than a gas grill. They are also less predictable, and require that you pay more attention than you would for a gas grill. Another disadvantage is charcoal grills lose heat over time, requiring you to regularly stoke the flame. With a gas grill, the flame remains constant until you decide to turn it off. Professional pit masters prefer the use of charcoal grills to gas grills. However, over 68% of American grill owners prefer to use gas.

If you are in the market looking for a charcoal grill there are some things you need to look for to make sure you get a high quality product. Make sure you buy a product with a tightly fitting dome, so you can do indirect grilling. You should also look for a grill with air vents on both top and bottom to allow you to adjust the airflow and the heat. The most important thing you need to look for is to make sure you buy a grill with a sturdy construction and an optional side table. This will prevent the grill from tipping while you are grilling, causing the charcoal to spill and possibly cause a fire.

Home Air Conditioners And Your Health

With temperatures continuing to rise and the longer summers that we seem to face, the need for some kind of air conditioner within your home is vital. There are some that can get by with a fan; others can only manage by using an air conditioner. There are even some folks who find they need additional air conditioners to keep cool. However, when using your air conditioners, you need to take care of the temperature you set, if you set too low a setting, it could actually affect your health! Changing from a cool environment to intense heat in a short time could give you some problems.

In many areas of the U.S., temperatures can stretch into the 90’s or even higher during some hot summer days. When faced with this heat, there are some folks who set their air conditioners too low, either in the 60’s or lower. If you’re staying indoors all day, you won’t have a problem. But if you do leave the house, you’re body will face an intense change in temperature. This sudden change can easily cause you a cold or chill. In some cases, the swift transformation in the body’s temperature can cause the body to go into shock because the body just hasn’t had time to adapt.

When using an air conditioner, try and keep the temperature difference from the inside and the outside to a sensible level. Don’t set your air conditioner too low.

Though many like to spend time in an air conditioned room on a hot day, you also need to make sure you drink enough water. Otherwise, the air conditioner could cause you to get dehydrated. However, a humidifier could help ease any worries about dehydration, as this will blow cool air in the room and helps keep the moisture within the air.

Outdoor Grills – Stainless Is Not Always Best

Today’s outdoor grills are better than ever before. The use of stainless steel is commonplace, and this not only improves the look, but adds to the grills overall longevity. There is no arguing that stainless steel will hold up better than almost anything in and outdoor environment. It is used extensively for hardware and fittings on the finest boats due to its resistance to rust and corrosion.

Your barbeque grill is the perfect candidate for stainless steel. It sits outside all year long, and is exposed to high temperatures when cooking. Baked on food residue is also fairly easy to remove from stainless surfaces. Though corrosion resistance and ease of maintenance are important factors, they do not determine how effective a grill is at actually cooking food. For that we must look beyond the obvious advantages of stainless steel, and concentrate on the characteristics that make a grill perform.

For optimal cooking performance the grilling surface (grates) should radiate heat evenly minimizing any hot spots. As a general rule, the thicker the grills are the more evenly they will give off heat, and the longer they will radiate that heat. Although stainless steel is adequate, the best type of grilling surface has proven to be cast iron. Although it takes a little longer for cast iron to heat up, grills made of cast iron will retain the heat for longer periods, and radiate that heat more evenly than stainless steel. The problem with cast iron vs. stainless steel is that cast iron grills will eventually rust and need replacement. This problem is minimized by the use of porcelain and ceramic coatings that have been developed to protect the grills, making them last longer and be easier to clean.

At first glance you may be fooled into believing that the more stainless steel a barbeque grill has the better, but as is so often the case, too much of a good thing does not necessarily make it any better. Although stainless may be the best choice for some of the grill’s components, it may not be the best material for everything. Striking a balance between performance and longevity will assure that you get the most from your barbeque grill. Keep in mind that the grills (cooking grates) are the least expensive and most easily replaced parts of a barbeque. They are also the only components to actually touch the food, and have a profound impact on the overall quality of the cooking experience.

Ultrasonic Humidifiers

A certain amount of moisture in the air is necessary for the human body to function properly. Scientific research conducted on the human body suggests that the appropriate amount of humidity required ranges from thirty to forty percent and if the humidity level is less than that, it may lead to nosebleeds, cough, and itchy eyes. The damaging effects of dry air are not limited to the human body and can also affect wall paint, furniture, wallpaper, and brittle wood.

Ultrasonic humidifiers are used in dry weather conditions to generate and maintain the adequate level of moisture in the designated area. Different models of ultrasonic humidifiers available in the market perform one basic function of circulating moisture through the air.

These devices are different from steam humidifiers that use heat to convert water into vapor. Instead of heat, they use ultrasonic sound waves to convert water into a fine mist and heavy-duty fans to circulate the created mist in the surrounding areas. These devices are increasingly being used in nurseries and children rooms, as there is no danger of steam bursts that might occur in ordinary humidifiers. They are also preferred due to their ability to perform quickly and quietly.

Some government agencies such as Environmental Protection Agency and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have in recent years expressed their concerns about the role of ultrasonic humidifiers in dispersing microorganisms and minerals in the air. However, conclusive scientific evidence is still not available on this theory and agencies have not concluded that this poses a significant health risk.

Users can follow a few basic steps to avoid any potential problems related to dispersal of microorganisms and minerals. This includes using fresh water, periodic cleaning of water tanks, using disinfectant, and using water with low mineral content or distilled water. Usage instructions issued by the manufacturer should also be followed to cut down the risk of microorganism being placed in the air.

An Introduction To Tankless Water Heaters

Does your old-fashioned hot water tank need replacement? If so, have you ever considered replacing it with tankless water heater for your home? Although many homeowners used to think that the tankless water tank could not possibly work as effectively as the other types of water heaters, they were proved wrong when they experienced for themselves the various benefits of using a tankless water heater. Many were surprised how convenient a tankless water heater is and, in turn, made the switch from a conventional water heater. The tankless system is a better choice than the conventional water heater systems. Following are some of the reasons why.

The tankless water heater can save space. The size of a typical tankless water heater is 20”x13”x3, which is small enough to fit into smaller areas and be less obtrusive than the older style. With a tankless water heater, you can free up a considerable amount of space in your home for other purposes. Another reason why many homeowners prefer the tankless water heater is safety. Since it is a smaller unit, there is a reduced risk of getting scalded.

With this type of water heater, a huge amount of hot water can heated as needed instead of storing it in a tank. This way you will not have to worry about sending gallons of steaming water throughout the pipes in your home that could possibly harm people and pets if an accident or explosion occurred. And lastly, a tankless water heater can reduce your heating costs and will not leak like tank heaters do.

With these advantages at hand, using a tankless water heater is indeed more practical than using a tank water heater. So, the next time you look for a replacement water heater for your home, consider having a tankless water heater. You can begin your search on the Internet for online tankless water heater system providers. But make sure that you compare prices and benefits of the different types before you arrive at a purchasing decision.

An Introduction To Power Inverters

Electrical power interruptions are quite common in every place especially after a heavy downpour or a severe storm. To counter these power outages a search has been done to find a reliable and economic alternate source of electricity.

A power inverter serves this purpose. It is a device that is used to convert direct current to alternating current. It works by converting 12 Volt DC power into 110 volts AC. Power Inverters are great tools to run household appliances from a car or any other DC source in areas where there is no electricity. There are several types of power inverters available in two categories – The True Sine Wave Power Inverters and the Modified Sine Wave Power inverters.

True sine wave power inverters provide utility grade power. These inverters are expensive and can power almost anything including laser printers and fax machines. A sine wave inverter is recommended to operate higher-end electronic equipment. Modified sine waves are the most common types of power inverters. A modified sine wave inverter can adequately power most household appliances and power tools. It is more economical, but may present certain compromises with some loads such as microwave ovens, laser printers, clocks and cordless tool chargers.

Simple inverters make use of oscillators driving a transistor to create a square wave, which in turn is fed through a transformer to produce the required output voltage. While Advanced inverters have started using more advanced forms of transistors or similar devices such as thyristors.

Inverters are used in a wide range of applications, from small power supplies for a computer to large industrial applications to transport bulk power. A few of the most widely used applications of Power Inverters include running television sets, microwaves and other household appliances and charging cell phones, laptops from a car’s cigarette lighter outlet and running power tools from a 12 volt battery on jobsites where electricity isn’t available.

I remember that some years ago a traveling salesman knocked on my door and I decided to give him a chance to present his spiel, although I wasn’t quite happy to see him. I just don’t like those guys because they always say it’s going to take you less time than it actually does and we speak about hours here. It has been always the same with every single salesman that came to my door.

Despite the unnecessarily long speech, the product that he offered seemed to be just fine. A Filter Queen air purification system it was, and of course I needed to know how it would help me in case I decide to get one. And the guy told me all about the dust, the dead skin cells and in case you have an animal at home all the hairs, feathers etc. that are floating all around us in the air we breathe. And regardless of the quantities of all those airborne particles the Filter Queen system was designed to vanquish them. So it was a way to improve your own home’s atmosphere, however the guy wanted an absurd price of over a thousand dollars. Finally we agreed at about 500 and that was it.

So if you want to have your home cleaner, it’s a good idea to get a good quality air purification system. There is no way for us to keep our homes open in order to get clean fresh air in so we need to find a way to deal with the filthy air we have. Just try the internet and you’ll easily find a proper air purification system. There is quite a lot of choice, you just need to find the one that suits your needs best.

Tips on Getting the Right Vacuum Cleaner for Your Needs!

How in the world can a consumer decide what vacuum cleaner to buy with Dirt Devil, Miele, Eureka, Dyson, Electrolux, Kirby and so many more on the market? To make matters even more complicated, each manufacturer has numerous models in the market. We read reviews by almost everyone and it seems that every unit has their champions and complainers. What the heck is going on here?

The truth is that every one of the reviews are absolutely right! Vacuum cleaners, like any other consumer product have an array of features and benefits to meet the needs of a specific part of the market. Those that are unhappy with a specific product usually purchased based on price or advertising alone without considering what they actually needed in a vacuum.

Here's a few things to consider when deciding on the right vacuum cleaner for you and you home.

1. Decide on a vacuum style. There's two basic vacuum cleaner styles, the upright and the canister. The upright has the motor, handle, carpet brush and dirt storage all in 1 unit. The canister is identified as two separate pieces connected together with a hose. The vacuum head, brush and handle are one piece while the suction motor and dirt containment is in the other. Canister vacuum cleaner reviews will focus on the flexibility of design while most upright vacuum cleaner review ill show the simplicity of design. . 2. Weight. the weight of the vacuum is important if you have kids helping with the housework or it's for people with mobility issues. A vacuum that's to heavy to move about, no matter how well it cleans is essentially worth a lot less.

3. Cleanability or suction power. This is important only to the degree that your home gets dirty. Have a lot of people in your home? Do you have an active lifestyle that beings the neighbors and kids and pets through your home a lot? Then this is critical

4. Exhaust handling. Vacuum cleaners use air suction to pull dirt from your carpets then trap it into a dirt holding bag or bagless container. The exhaust can also throw microscopic dust particles into the air causing allergy and asthma sufferers breathing problems. HEPA filtration systems are not available on many vacuum cleaners to limit this problem. There also are a few units that use water as a filtration system.

5. Bag or bagless design. The last few years we have seen the rise in popularity of the bagless or cyclonic dirt handling systems. Unlike the older bag units, a vacuum cleaner review bagless will focus on the high constant suction capability. This is important for speed of completing the housework. What these bagless vacuum reviews do NOT say however is that the dirt carrying capacity of the containers is usually much less than a bag. This means more stops to empty and clean out the dirt receptacle.

HVAC Contractors

If you are building a house, you probably need an HVAC contractor or an expert in heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and products. A certified and experienced HVAC contractor will help you decide what kind of HVAC equipment you need and determine the practical and resource-efficient systems.

When choosing the right HVAC contractor, consider the company profile. First, you need your contractor to be very efficient at what they do. Otherwise, you will have problems that are difficult and expensive to fix later on. Second, you must choose with insurance coverage. They must be able to pay you in case they break something while installing your HVAC. Remember that your HVAC equipment and the system that support them are among the most important features of your home or office. And they are also the most difficult to change. So be very careful with your choices. When in doubt, always consult a construction expert. You may also canvass for contractors online. Most sites offer complete information about their HVAC contractors and staff.

Old houses that need renovation need to be seen and inspected first by a licensed and certified HVAC contractor. This may be the perfect time to take down the old system and introduce a more modern but cost-effective alternative.

And if houses need HVAC contractors, then commercial and residential buildings and facilities also need these kinds of professional experts. While the electrical engineer, the civil engineer, the architect, and designer may already have talked about the blueprint, they will need to consult with an HVAC expert. Because of his knowledge and skill, the HVAC contractor has a lot more to contribute to the design and implementation of the plan. On your end, you can be assured that nothing will go wrong with your HVAC system. It is also important for you to befriend the organizers, as they will most likely be the ones responsible for the maintenance of your equipment and system.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Heaters

Have you ever experienced a morning when you are about to take a shower but you could not because was no hot water? Or have you ever been in a situation when you want to stay outdoors during a winter day but you could not because of the extremely low temperature? If you answer yes to these questions, you are just one of the few who has experienced how important it is to have heaters at home.

Most people do not spend much time thinking about the heater in their home until it needs fixing. If you are living in a hot region, this may not be a problem at all. But if you are in a cold area and it is unbearable to take a shower because of the cold water, a defective heater can certainly make your day worse. That is why it is necessary that you at least have a basic idea as to how your heater works.

Heaters are of several types, depending mainly on the purpose that they serve. But basically, there are two that are very popular, the water heater and the patio heater. The water heater is the device used for heating and storing water, and the heat is generated by gas or electricity. The gas water heater and the electric water heater are almost identical except that the electric water heater does not have a burner control and a burner.

On the other hand, patio heaters are heaters built for use in open spaces, particularly patios and outside dining areas. Patio heaters are especially designed for use during the winter season, when you want to feel comfortable even when you are outside of your home.

These two types of heaters are both very useful to consumers. But just like any other device, heaters can eventually become damaged. But before you buy a new one, make sure that you find the most efficient type of heater. Never assume that you need to buy the same heater that you presently have. You can always have better options when it comes to heaters. Just see to it that you get one that will best work for you.

Useful Information About Grills

Grills are basically outdoor baking, roasting, or broiling apparatuses that can be used to cook up any number of juicy, delicious meals. Grilling is a summer pastime everywhere in the United States. From picnics to tailgating festivities during a sporting event, just about every person has experienced and enjoyed an afternoon of grilling with their loved ones.

There are many types of grills available people wanting to enjoy the outdoor cooking experience. Gas or propane grills are the most commonly used grills. This type of grill usually includes a tank beside or underneath the grilling area. It is very popular because it is easy to use. However, the gas grill is one of the most expensive grills you can buy.

Charcoal and wood burning grills are the least expensive and space saving. Tabletop grills are popular among those who have small cooking areas and tailgaters grilling at a sporting event. Home Appliances

Home appliances are all of those appliances that are used in the home. It is a very broad term that encompasses everything from electric toothbrushes to washer/dryers. Home appliances can be large or small. They are basically classified as white good and brown goods. Brown goods are classified as household electrical entertainment appliances like CD and DVD players, televisions and camcorders. The term “brown” was applied because most of these appliances at one time were traditionally finished with wood.

Major household electrical appliances are called white goods and include air conditioners, dishwashers, stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, etc. White goods were, and still are in many cases, enameled white.

Any home appliance that is purchased today should be energy efficient in order to save money. Federal regulations have to be listed on any appliance purchased, so you can see what you are buying and how energy efficient it is. This is particularly true with furnaces, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, air conditioners and lamps. Another example is purchasing an appliance that uses water, like a washing machine or a dishwasher. Look for newer features like reduced water uses for different rinsing cycles. Another cost effective measure you can take when buying an air-conditioner is to make sure that it fits the size of your room. If you purchase one that is too big for the area that needs to be cooled, you’ll be wasting energy and money. The Department of Energy suggests that an air-conditioner’s size can be determined by multiplying your room’s square feet by 20.

Window Air Conditioners

Window air conditioners are small units made to fit a standard window space. They work like any other air conditioner and they come in different BTU (British Thermal Units) capacities to cool rooms of different sizes.

Window air conditioners came to the market as a solution for people who couldn't afford or did not want central air conditioning. Because central air conditioning can be quite expensive, and because many people live in small apartments, central air is not for everyone. This led to the advent of window air conditioners.

Window air conditioners have a hot coil and a chilled coil along with two fans. The fans blow air over these coils and they in turn suck away the heat and humidity from the room into the outside area, providing clean, cool air.

The capacity of an air conditioner is measured in BTUs. So, the size of the air conditioner plays a vital role in determining its cooling capacity. When a small window unit for a large room is not enough, a large unit for a small place is waste of money. So, you should buy a window air conditioner appropriately based on your room space. For a space up to 350 square feet, you would require 8000 BTUs. The number of BTUs grows proportionately according to your space.

Window air conditioners have high-energy efficient ratios, noise-free, and when fitted properly cool an entire space very quickly. There are lots of types of window air conditioners from different companies available at different prices. Companies like Haier, Kelon, and Carrier have products starting from price ranges as low as $50-$150. They come with quiet operation function, timer, dehumidification, air filters and much more.

If you spend over $300 on an air conditioner, the quality and value increases dramatically. The air conditioners have a high EER and BTU capacity and are capable of cooling large spaces very quickly. Spend $600 or more and you'll be purchases a super deluxe model that will probably cool your entire first floor living area.

Why Choose an Electric Fire

Long Used in Europe...

Electric fires are growing dramatically in popularity in the United States. All sizes, styles, colors and types of electric hearth products are now available including stoves that mimic a wood or coal burner, electric fireplaces complete with mantels, inserts to retrofit into an existing fireplaces and wall-mounted electric fires that require no floor space and offer a fun, contemporary style.

FLICKERING FLAMES

Technology continues to develop electric fires into a mesmerizing, believable fire. A visitor to your home may have no idea that the gently flickering flame is actually made by electricity!

GOES ANY WHERE!

Old, disabled chimneys are not a problem with electric fireplaces. No venting is required - installation literally is as easy as plugging in a television. And unlike vent-free gas products, electric fires have NO fumes. So if you have a room that could use a bit of extra charm, think electric! There's a size and style that's right for any size, any decor.

WANT A FIRE WITHOUT HEAT?

The dancing flame produced by an electric fire provides a warm, soothing glow in any room. Enjoy a "fire" no matter the season by using the fireplace with the heater turned off, then flip a button for variable heat settings to remove the chill.

ECONOMICAL

No special preparation is needed to install an electric fireplace. Electric fires use a regular household, 3-prong electrical outlet. Spare the expense of running gas lines and chimneys with a plug-in fire. They're cheap to operate too - about 2-3 cents an hour on the "flame only" setting, about 7-8 cents an hour when you run the heater. When you do the math for cost per btu for wood, oil or gas, you'll likely find that electric fireplaces, at 100% efficiency, may be your most economical choice to heat small rooms or to supplement central heating at a lower thermostat setting.

SAFETY

Most electric fires have no hot surfaces so they're a safer choice to use around pets, children and seniors. Add an electric fireplace to baby's nursery or grandma's room to keep the temperature cozy for them while lowering the thermostat in other parts of the house.

HEATS GREAT

Electric fires provide enough heat (4500-5000 btu average) to serve as the sole source of heat for a room size of about 400 square feet. They're great for sun porches that lack central heat. They also may help you save money - turn down your central heating thermostat then turn up the electric fire in the family room, den, bedroom - where ever you find yourself cozying up on a chilly day.

PORTABLE

Small electric stoves that look like their woodburning counterparts are available in light-weight resin or wood construction that enable you to move them from room to room when needed. An electric fireplace insert can be used to convert your wood burning fireplace to electric, and can easily be slid out and stored away if the mood strikes and you'd like to burn real firewood, or if your power goes out and emergency heating is needed.

Think of All the Places Where These Fireplaces are the Perfect Answer

Where there is no operable fireplace or chimney.

Bedrooms, bathrooms, nursery, sun porch, foyer or kitchen.

Nursing Homes, high rise buildings: offices, boardrooms, reception rooms.

Rental properties, condos & apartments.

Small rooms that don't have large heating needs or where a little supplemental heat is needed.

Used Vacuum Pumps

Used vacuum pumps are those meant to perform the same functions of the brand new ones; the difference, however, is that used vacuum pumps are often much less expensive.

Used vacuum pumps are usually supplied by vacuum pump repairing and servicing dealers who acquire the pumps from those who have opted to purchase new ones. Or, when wear and tear plagues old pumps, these are given over to recycling dealers. They repair and service them to good effect, almost like the fresh, finished product, and offer them to customers who can't afford to invest in brand new pumps at the moment.

One plus point is that used vacuum pumps also get warranty from the dealers, which extends from six months to one year. Sometimes, manufacturers also recycle used ones and sell them to needy customers.

Many manufacturers offer used and rebuilt vacuum pumps with a six-month warranty. Many also offer trade-in allowances on select new pumps. Surplus Record Machinery & Equipment Directory is a leading online market place for used and surplus industrial machinery and equipment, including vacuum pumps, with a listing of over 60,000 industrial assets.

There are firms supplying vacuum pumps and vacuum equipment in the "used-tested- good" condition with a thirty-day return privilege, or "rebuilt," with a year warranty on materials and workmanship. There are online, live database facilities, where used vacuum pumps and other vacuum equipment can be found. These are topped up with up-to-the-minute physical inventory. Customers can deal directly with the owners and thus pay no commission.

Metal Trash Cans

Trash cans come in a variety of designs and materials and you can find metal trash cans, plastic trash cans, wooden trash cans, and a whole lot more. But trash cans made of metal still remain the first choice of many people

Metal trash cans are more durable than their counterparts because metal is hard-wearing and long-lasting by nature. It is strong and resilient to different kinds of stresses. Metals remain solid at ordinary temperatures, and remain attractive throughout their useful life because they are lustrous when polished. They stand against surface deformation, scratches, and breakage.

Most metal trash cans are made of processed aluminums, which are lightweight, silvery metals that are more resistant to corrosion than others. The aluminum oxide covering on trash cans retard corrosive action. Aluminum is also very lightweight and in fact, it weighs three times less than steel.

Metal trash cans perfectly complement modern architectural designs. The sleek lines and polished finishes make it look not only more contemporary, but more sanitary as well. Metal trash cans come in different colors to complement any interior decor theme. There are also metal trash cans that can be built into existing structures (such as cabinets) to put trash out of view.

Metal trash cans are a little pricier than their plastic counterparts but they generally last longer are worth the money you pay for them. Expect to spend about $20 for a midsize metal trash can. Those made with more expensive, treated metals are more expensive. Extra features such as spring-powered lids, foot pedals (for opening the lid), or chemically-treated bins, all increase the price.

Celebrate Your 60th Birthday Party

Some people tend to stop celebrating their birthdays’ so by the 60th birthday the special day goes by with hardly any notice at all. There’s no need to let this happen. Your birthday has no meaning unless you get up and celebrate it.

As you get older it might be fun to start celebrating your birthdays with themes from your youth. The Silver Screen era was a big hit and it can be a big hit as your party theme too. Watch old black and white movies, and have the guests come to the party all dolled up like their favorite movie stars. You can buy lots of silver glitter to toss around and to scatter on the buffet table as extra decoration. Silver and Black dangles to hang from the ceiling can add a lot to the atmosphere of the party.

Or you can find some napkins and other party supplies with the number sixty printed boldly on the paper and plastic. There are usually lots of party supplies out there that can be found with the appropriate age printed on them, tablecloths, balloons, banners, plates, and cups and so on. You may even be able to find some party favors to give to the guests that have a witty birthday remark printed on them with your age and name as well. Perhaps something like, “Pam loves her birthday because now she’s turned sixty.” It doesn’t really matter what remark you say because guests will be happy to receive something special to mark the occasion.

An outdoor party for your sixtieth celebration can provide lots of room for a large number of guests. The scenery can be very refreshing, especially if you tend to spend a lot of time indoors. Paper plates and tablecloths also make for very easy clean up while of course providing a lot of decoration and color.

How to Give a Great Hostess Gift

The invitation came, you RSVP’d, and now the panic begins. “What should I get the host/hostess? Should I send something before, after, or should I bring it to their house?” Choosing an appropriate host/hostess gift can be time consuming and somewhat frustrating, but there are a few ideas that will work over and over again.

If you are going to a dinner party, wine is always appreciated. If you know that the host or hostess has a favorite wine, try and bring that variety. There are a lot of great wines out on the market that won’t break your bank.

Scented candles are a great host/hostess gift. They can be used in any room of the house and smell wonderful. Candles come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, so you are sure to find something for every taste.

Gourmet cookies, brownies, or cakes are perfect for bringing the host because it is something that can be shared and enjoyed by the whole party. If you don’t have a favorite bakery nearby, try some of the bakeries online that will ship their delicious treats nationwide.

What better way to say thank you than with flowers or a potted plant? Flowers are the classic hostess gift because they have the ability to brighten up any room. Bamboo plants have become popular gifts in the past few years because they are said to bring the homeowner good fortune.

For the host or hostess that is a chocoholic, there is no better way to show your appreciation than with a box of chocolates. Many stores sell the boxes pre-wrapped, so this is an easy gift to get if you are in a hurry. For a variation on the chocolate idea, try chocolate dipped strawberries.

Another great gift idea is pewter. Whether you give a pewter serving tray or a pewter candy dish, pewter is a gift that will last a lifetime. Pewter is easy to take care of and looks great in any home.

Try to stay away from gift certificates. Although most people enjoy receiving them, gift certificates are often seen as impersonal. By planning ahead and having some of these items on hand, you can avoid the pre-party panic and the hours spent in the mall.

Why Is The Salad Brown? Confessions of a Former Neat Freak

When I rolled over in bed this morning and saw the bag of salad sitting on my night table next to me, I knew then that I had finally crossed the line. I’m not sure exactly where the line was, or even what it looked like, because it was no doubt covered with wet towels, stray socks, and perhaps, even, my oven mitt. But a line had, indeed, been crossed.

The change from neat-freak to the person I am today was slow and gradual. It snuck up on me, insidious, silent, like a bad smell that you somehow don’t notice anymore because you’ve grown used to smelling it.

In my former life, my best friend Diane called me Mrs. Applebee. I’m not sure where she came up with that name, but to her it represented prim, proper, neat, and organized. Diane made fun of me because I picked up my living room nightly before going to bed. She found it amazing that I vaccumed most every day, and made my bed every morning. She laughed because I washed, dried, and put away all the dishes immediately after every meal. She was stunned that I folded all the laundry the instant the dryer buzzed, before it even had time to cool off, and then put everything away. In the drawers.

I should have known I was getting close to the line when, a few weeks ago, I needed to bake a cake. Without giving it a second thought, I went straight to the kids’ bathroom toy tub and retrieved one of the beaters to my electric mixer. Another clue should have been when the pizza cutter went missing for several days. My teenage son was frantic (“I NEED that utensil, mom!), so I told him to check under the couch cushions. When my teenage daughter needed to use the cutting board, I nonchalantly told her, “It’s in my bathtub, next to the box of sanitary pads that Luke (our 2 year old) dumped in there the other day.”

Last week my husband was complaining that I hadn’t decorated the house yet for Halloween. “Just look around,” I told him. “There are plenty of cobwebs, why do we need to spend money? Besides, most of the decorations require a clear, flat surface on which to be set. We don’t own a clear flat surface.”

When I first became a stay-at-home mom, I was a pro. Of course, our two children were at school all day, and baby number three was on the way, so it was easy enough to keep up. Each day of the week was spent cleaning and organizing the house. The play room had bins where each toy was categorized and lovingly placed. The kitchen floor was always swept and mopped. The kitchen cabinets were organized. Most afternoons, fresh baked cookies were being taken from the oven, just as the bus pulled up to drop the kids off after school. Dinners were balanced…meat, fresh vegetables, fruit, milk. And after dinner, the dishes were all washed, dried, and put away.

But then we had more children. And then more children. And now we have six. And then I had a great idea to start my own business from home. Soon, I noticed the walls of the house seemed to be closing in. Or maybe those aren’t the walls, but just the toys and shoes and books and Legos that find their homes around the perimeter of every room in my house.

So, why was the salad sitting on my night table this morning? Because my 2 year old loves salad, and last evening he brought it into my bedroom (where I was working) and asked if he could have some. I told him no, took the salad from him, placed it on my night table (fully intending to put it away when he was otherwise occupied), and didn’t give it another thought until bedtime. At that point, my husband told me he’d put it away when he got up after the news to take the dog out.

Family and Relationships: The Family That Eats Together

When family members are constantly on the go, one of the first casualties is the family meal and family relationships. Typically, overscheduled families eat dinner in shifts: Mother and one child may swing by a fast-food restaurant drive-through on the way to music lessons. Another child may stop at home for a sandwich following soccer practice before going to a part-time job. A third child may come home an hour later and just snack on cereal. Dad may have a 12-hour day at the office, plus a long commute, and eat a microwave dinner when he gets home late in the evening.

According to the Food Marketing Institute, just 40 percent of American families eat dinner together, and then, no more than two or three times a week. That's in stark contrast to just a generation ago when close to 80 percent of families regularly ate evening meals together.

Certainly this endangered tradition is something worth saving. "The family dinner gives family members a chance to reconnect with each other after a long day at school or work," notes William Doherty, professor of family social science. "It helps everyone feel closer and lets children know their parents are interested in what's going on with them."

Probably one of the best ways to find time for family meals is for family members to cut down on the number of outside activities they're involved with, especially those that take place at dinnertime. In addition, you may want to take the following steps.

PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR

If family members simply can't rearrange their schedules for regular meals together, create a monthly meal calendar with at least two times a week set aside for a family meal. Find times when your family could be together with a minimum of disruptions. "It doesn't have to be an evening dinner," Doherty says. "It could be a Sunday morning breakfast, a late-night dessert, or a snack before bedtime."

GET EVERYONE INVOLVED

Get everyone in the family to pitch in with food preparation, table setting and cleanup, so that one person isn't doing all the work. "The whole family can be in the kitchen together, one person setting the table, someone else doing the stir-fry, another making a salad and everyone can help clean up afterward," suggests Barbara James, an associate professor of family and consumer sciences at Ohio State University. Not only does this spread out the workload, she says; it's also a good opportunity for communication, personal development, and teaching children how to cook.

Ionic Air Purifier Basics

An Ionic Breeze is advertised as a noiseless, ozone-reducing, air purifier that runs from $199 to $550. The machine stays soundless by moving air electronically, not among using a motor. According to the company, the ionic breeze air purifier was the first of its kind. This product was the first silent non-motor device that not only cleaned the air, it also circulated the air round about a room of a given size. It definitely surpassed anything else that had been on the mass market considering it quickly rose to turn into the best-selling air cleaner out there.

As normal there are pros as well as cons to every acquire and every product as well as while you are when you are thinking about a room when you are thinking about your house or apartment, watching TV or perhaps even sleeping, you should regularly be enjoying the advantages of the quietly, repetitively, air-purifying ionic breeze. There are however some people might contest the assertions made among the technology-driven Sharper Image and any other store that sells a resemble air purifier. These are consumer reports that undertake this at least it a excellent debate. We'll see both sides of the story and find out what's truth as well as what's myth, in that case you can remove all doubt.

The Ionic Air Purifiers have a lot going for them. They perform no cacophony and you'll appreciate that after you witness some of the hissing of other air cleaners out there. After your comparison, you'll also notice there aren't every filters for you to replace. That's because the stainless steel collectors are removable, not replaceable. You take them out, wipe them off and put them right back when it plays a part in. Uncomplicated.

Maybe it is the fact that the ionic breeze air purifiers bring down airborne allergens will convince you that you should pick one up. Eliminating not only allergens, but also things like pollen, smoke as well as even dander - gone. The purifiers are even endorsed among the British Allergy foundation. Not too bad! It's effective to stress that the machines work as well as you can put your eyes to the test. Just flip on the switch and leave the machine straight for 2 weeks. After that, pull out the removable collectors as well as have a look. You'll notice they're covered with junk that would otherwise be packing up when it plays a part in your lungs.

The debate still continues with some Consumer Reports. Actually, the consumer reporting group says that not only does the ionic air breeze purifier not clean the air properly as it says, but it actually pollutes the air among releasing harmful levels of ozone into the air. Consumer reports may have their effective estimation but the product is after all well within the FDA's standards, as well as this is nothing more than a debate as well as a struggle of ideas as well as opinions.

Tankless Hot Water Heater - How Can It Improve Your Home

How often did you take a shower and the water started to run cold before you were finished? Don't you hate that? With a traditional water heater this is always a problem. And if another person wants to use hot water after you, just forget it! Buying a water heater with a bigger tank might solve the problem, but it is expensive, it is huge and eventually any size heater can run out of water. Is there another way? Yes, you can switch to a tankless hot water heater that heats water as you need it.

How does a tankless hot water heater work?

There are two ways to heat water. One is to store it in a tank and heat it up there; this is what conventional heaters do. Another way is to heat water as it passes through the pipes -tankless heaters work this way.

Tankless Water Heater Pros

Tankless heaters have four advantages:

* provides hot water instantly and for as long as you need it
* uses less energy
* lasts for a long time
* much smaller than a ordinary water heater

The best thing about a tankless hot water heater is that it heats up water as you use it. So you don't have to wait while it fills the tank and heats up. Hot waves heat up water as it passes through the pipes. So it doesn't need to be stored anywhere prior to heating. What it means for you is that using a tankless electric heater you will never run out of hot water while in the shower. And if several members of your family take a shower one after another, a tankless hot water heater is a great time saver because you don't have to wait the tank to refill.

How can a tankless heater help you save energy? Other water systems heat water all the time, even if you are not using it. Tankless heater, on the other hand, only heats water on demand. It doesn’t waste energy heating up water while you are at work or on holidays.

The amount of savings depends on how much water you generally use. If you consume a lot and need it all day, than the savings will not be as great. But if you use hot water only in the morning and in the evening, like most full time working people do, your energy bill will go down substantially.

Another advantage is that tankless heaters have a longer life span those ordinary heaters. The reason is that water is heated as it passes through, so there are no mineral build ups. If you purchase a tankless heater by a good brand such as Bosch, Kenmore or American Water Heater, it can last as long as 20 years without being repaired or replaced.

Also tankless water heaters are much smaller than the conventional ones. So if the space is an issue, tankless heater will be great for a small home or apartment.

Tankless Electric Hot Water Heater Cons

Nothing in this world is perfect and where there are pros, there are cons as well. And for tankless hot water heaters it is the initial cost. Tankless heaters are much more expensive than ordinary water heating systems. However, if you invest in a high quality tankless heater, it will save you in energy savings in a long term.

How Tankless Water Heaters are used?

Tankless heaters are suitable for use in residential homes as well as commercial places. It can be used in swimming pools, one-day laundries, nursing homes and hospitals.

Most heaters have a thermostat that allows you adjust the temperature. You can set it on low if you have small children in the house to protect them from burning themselves. On the other hand, if you want instant hot shower, setting the temperature to high is recommended.
