How to Buy a Range with Confidence

Buying a major appliance is always stressful. No matter how well prepared you think you are the variety of choice can be overwhelming. The trick to make this purchase less stressful is simply to be prepared.

Firstly, make a list of what you want, need, or desire in a replacement range. Check out the latest newspaper advertisements to narrow down the choices. The ads can give you an idea what is available and how much it will cost. Then make a few calls to your local appliance stores. Ask for some basic prices and whether they have a floor model of the style you are interested in buying. Only then, with list in hand, should you proceed to the appliance store.

The purchase of a new electric range can usually be broken down into the following segments:

1 Appearance and style

2 Price range

3 Options

4 Name brand

Appearance and style ---------- choices would include your preference for white, black, stainless steel, freestanding, drop-in, glass top, and digital or standard controls. All these choices are arbitrary. They should match your personal preferences and the style you feel would look the best in your kitchen.

While white remains the most popular choice for a range both black and stainless steel is becoming more common. White will match most kitchen styles and colors, plus it’s easy to maintain. Stainless is popular because it can give your kitchen a modern look. Plus its color is neutral, and will blend in with other appliances. Its disadvantages are that it can scratch easily, and requires a special cleaner to maintain its appearance.

A freestanding range is still the standard. It will be the least expensive when compared feature to feature with any other styles. It can be moved easily if spring-cleaning is required, or food is spilled between it and the counter. Its construction is basic so simple repairs can be done by the homeowner.

A drop-in (sometimes called a slide-in) range is one that installs level with the counter top. It has no rear console therefore all the controls are all at the front of the appliance. This may be considered an advantage since you never have to reach across the heating surface to regulate the elements. It is more expensive than a freestanding range and is often only available as a glass top model. It does give the kitchen a more customized look but you may find this style more complex to operate. Also, their added complexity means they are costly and usually involve at lot of digital items and displays. Future repair may be expensive.

Glass top ranges are definitely beautiful. They give any kitchen a more modern look when installed. Glass tops are usually available in both freestanding and drop-in styles. Their disadvantage is they must be fully cleaned after every few uses. If not done they quickly become stained and dirty looking. Extra care is also required not to allow pots to spill or boil over because burnt-on stains will result. Not all cookware works on a glass top range. You may have to purchase new flat bottom pots and pans. Some consumers find them slow to heat because of the temperature regulation devices necessary to protect the glass from overheating.

The basic freestanding range you are replacing probably has simple controls. You turn the element control higher or lower to get the required heat. Today’s higher end ranges offer digital controls. As you turn a knob a digital readout increase or decreases. This allows a more accurate regulation of the elements heat. But being digital they are going to be expensive to repair if they fail. Definitely not a job the homeowner will be able to do. Plus, like all things digital they can be affected by electrical fluctuations. Therefore if you live in an area where electrical power outages are common, avoid the computerized or digital ranges. Power fluctuations can seriously affect the electronics.

Price range ---------- will be important to you, just as it is to most consumers. A simple freestanding electric range with basic coil elements can be as low as $400, while a glass top drop-in range with all the options is probably priced at $2500.

This wide variation in price means you should not go shopping without setting a price limit. Once in the appliance store you may be attracted to a model beyond your preset limit. If this happens ask yourself:
a) is it worth the extra money b) will it make my cooking easier or more efficient.

If unsure about your purchase leave the store, and come back later. Don’t make a quick decision, nor allow any salesperson to pressure you into a sale. By walking away you will allow yourself the time necessary to make in informed decision. You can rethink the choices available and ask yourself if what you are about to buy is worth the investment.

Options ---------- available for ranges can seem endless. Some of the ones you will encounter are self-cleaning, convection oven, bridged elements, full door glass, warmer drawer, and clock features.

Self-cleaning is one everyone understands. It avoids the hassle of getting into the oven to clean out the grease and grime -- a job no one likes doing. The disadvantage is that it uses large amounts of electricity. The oven temperature will climb to approximately 900 degrees Fahrenheit for a period of three to four hours. But remember, even a self-cleaning it will require you to clean parts of the oven by hand. It’s not meant to eliminate manual cleaning, but it does a lot of the work. Also, the self-cleaning will only remove recent debris, stains left too long will become baked into the oven. Baked in stains require hand cleaning. They can be difficult to remove because normal oven cleaners or strong detergents cannot be used inside a self-cleaning oven.

A convection oven option allows faster baking, and more even baking throughout the oven interior. During convection baking a large fan draws air through the oven. It eliminates the problem of hot spots on different oven racks. Using a convection fan allows multiple trays of items such as cookies to be cooked at the same time. Rather than doing one sheet of cookies you can do four. This is a substantial time saver if you do a lot of baking.

Bridged elements are an option available on some glass top ranges. A special section of element is used to join the elements on a side of the top. Therefore when the two elements and the bridge are turned on, one side of the top becomes equivalent to a grill. This is an option you may find useful if you grill all the time. Like most options though it adds greatly to the complexity of the range. It will only be on high-end models so you will need to justify the additional money required to obtain this option.

A full door glass is cosmetic only. It gives the range a more contemporary style. It has no function other than hiding the regular oven glass.

Warmer drawers are utensil drawers with an element added to their bottom. They keep plates and food warming as you cook. Unless you have specific need for this option it’s usually not worth the extra cost.

If you have small children a clock lockout might be a feature to consider. It locks the clock and controls so that a child cannot start the range elements or oven. This may be something to consider with drop-in ranges because the controls are at the front where they are more accessible to children. This option is usually not available as a separate feature, but as a secondary option on very high-end ranges such as glass top drop-in ranges.

Name brands ---------- can be important. They become a part of your final decision about which range to buy. The advantage of a brand name you recognize is that it will have a service network. This becomes important if the range has a problem during the warranty period. Name brand manufacturers also have a network of part distributors. This certainly makes obtaining a part a much easier process.

In conclusion, never make an impulsive decision when out shopping for a new electric range. A bad choice is one you will have to live with for many years. Therefore, go prepared with as much initial information as you can find. Whether from newspaper advertisements, flyers, catalogues, or word of mouth you have to know your choices. Gather together your facts and prices before going to the appliance store. Being well prepared will greatly lower the stress involved in your purchase and allow you to make a good choice. One you will be proud to show the neighbours.

We all know that mothers should not leave the children alone but if they want to do work, they can apply as a Southern Living consultant. The advantage is that they will schedule their working hours by themselves. The income they will get depend on the time they will spend working.

The main obligation of the Southern Living’s consultant is to arrange parties and encourage others to do it as well. There parties are all about Southern Living line of products. This will be a wonderful way to earn money from home. Moreover, you will not be working; you will be spending time with your friends.

My sister-in-law quit her regular job. Now, she is a consultant for Southern Living. She loves her job. She didn’t feel well when she was going out for work every day but now she works for Southern Living and she never complains. She is really very proud of her work and she loves most the idea that she determines herself her working hours for Southern Living.

I am always very surprised by the wonderful themes she is presenting at each Southern Living party. The first theme I remember was the classic tea party. She decorated the rooms in a Victorian style. Then she asked the guests to come wearing Victorian style clothing or simply with lacy clothes accessorized with hats and gloves. All guests loved this Southern Living party.

Each summer she makes a Southern Living beach party. It happens that we almost forget that we are at a Southern Living party. This beach party is so much fun. Everyone enjoys the frozen daiquiris and forgets that he or she is at a consultant Southern Living party.

I also remember many other themes, my sister-in-law, used to show us. I am always very amazed by her creativeness. Here I can name a Southern Living parties like golf widows’ day or not just golf but any other sport you can think of. All holidays can also be used as themes for Southern Living parties.

When the time for a Southern Living party comes, I am always very impatient to understand what theme is coming up next. It is always fun to attend a Southern Living party, which has an interesting theme, no matter how good Southern Living products are.

Comparison of Sewing Machine Prices and Features

When performing sewing machine comparisons, it is important to compare not only prices but features as well. Sometimes, obtaining the best price does not mean you get the best deal on your purchase.

Compare sewing machines by sitting at them as if you were sewing. Better yet, ask for a scrap of material and actually sew. Are the foot controls comfortable or, if you opt for a knee control, is it comfortable? Do your arms feel comfortable when guiding the fabric through the machine? Does the machine feel as if it is pulling the fabric away from you or does it gently feed the material? You want to find a sewing machine that is comfortable for you.

Of course, you have to do a sewing machine comparison on pricing. Purchase the best quality machine you can afford. Don't trade off crucial features to save only a few dollars. If you must choose a lower model to save money, select one with fewer of the 'whistles and bells' that you don't use often rather than an important feature you'll need regularly.

Sewing machines to consider with different function and prices:

Electronic sewing machines

As with mechanical models electronic sewing machines also use a single motor along with cams and levers to power the needle with electronic features making it easier to precisely control settings. With the press of a button you are able to change stitches or adjust lengths in a much simpler manner than turner a less precise knob or lever. Stitches are more consistent, and adjustments are easier since they require pushing buttons instead of fiddling with knobs. The prices of electronic machines have dropped dramatically making it affordable for everyone.

Computerized sewing machines

Depending on your needs you may require a computerized machine, which is coordinated by a computer microprocessor. One important thing about these machines is that they need hardly any maintenance. A basic computerized machine will allow you to embroider letters of the alphabet and a few small decorative motives. If you are intending to download designs from the internet your machine will need to be able to interface with a computer. These machines usually fall in the higher price range.

Embroidery machines

The top of the range sewing machines will have hoop embroidery features. They will have a number of pre-programmed embroidery patterns and offer additional patterns on a memory card. Some machines have a special drive that will enable you to download patterns of the internet onto a memory card. With other machines you are able to scan images onto your computer and digitize it for embroidery. These types of machines can be very expensive.

Quilting machines

Most sewing machines can be used for machine quilting with some requiring special considerations or adaptations. It would be wise to consult your dealer as to what these special consideration may be. One requirement that is especially important for making large quilts is the opening between the needle and the motor. The larger the opening the easier it will be to handle a large quilt.

It is important to ensure you have an in-store demonstration of whatever sewing machine you are considering purchasing. Be very aware of the warranty and service available on the machine

Trash Cans

There are two things that can make a home unpleasant: dirt and clutter. If you want a home that is organized and kept immaculately clean, then free it with those two destructive elements. Not only you and your family members are going to be kept comfortable and relaxed but you could also wholeheartedly impress your visitors. More than any other place your home should be a sanctuary so that household members may find peace and tranquility when at home.

The clutter can be removed easily if you knew how to arrange your furniture, appliances, equipments, and other homely things in a proper way. If this task is particularly difficult for you, employ someone for help who could assist you in the arrangement.

Dirt is the existence of litters, garbage, trash and dust inside and outside your home. These elements would easily mar the comfortable atmosphere that your household should have. Dirt can hardly be prevented from entering your home, but you can avoid it from lingering around. If any slight suggestion of dirt is wiped out from the sight immediately, you need not worry as much about a general cleaning every now and then and apologizing for neglecting even the smallest of the dirt that could pile up with just over a few days. In this sense, it would be wiser to prevent accumulation in the first place, if you don?t want the kind of mess that it could bring to your home.

The proper place of dirt and trash should be naturally locked inside the trash cans. Any individual who is sensible enough will consider cleanliness as one major influence in the lives of everybody. Employing the use of trash cans is the perfect start. If you appreciate the beauty of your home, you'd know that they are the things that any home should not go without.

Trash cans actually come in different types. Outdoor trash cans are those placed on a corner of your yard or even on the streets outside. A bathroom trash can is necessary inside your restrooms. Kitchen trash cans, obviously, should always be in the corner of the kitchen but make sure that it does not create an unpleasant or unsanitary sight. Your bedrooms should also have a small trash can so that clutter and dirt will not linger around.

When Looking At Heating For Your Home Consider High Efficiency Gas Furnaces

In today's increasingly energy conscious society, one must consider the energy efficiency of every product they purchase. Whether it's your car's gas mileage or how much electricity your refrigerator uses, we've all become more aware of our energy usage.

There are two main reasons for this, and they're pretty obvious. One, inefficient energy use costs more money. It's safe to say we're all looking to lower our bills and switching to energy efficient appliances is a big step in that direction. The other reason to use high efficiency appliances is the understanding that many of our energy sources are finite. In other words, eventually we'll run out.

One of the biggest users of energy in our homes and workplaces are the heating units. Just like most other major household products, gas furnaces have become more efficient than ever before. Natural gas is an economical method for home heating and now you can find all sorts of high efficiency gas furnaces on the market.

High efficiency gas furnaces tend to cost more than conventional gas furnaces. This is for a couple reasons. They're not yet produced on the same scale as conventional furnaces so there are still cost factors to overcome which have to be passed on to the consumer. Secondly, high efficiency gas furnaces employ the latest technologies, which, as we all know, always kicks up the cost of a product. Innovation isn't free. However, keep in mind, that this is just an initial start-up cost. Sure, you may be laying down more money at the outset, but the money you'll save with a high efficiency gas furnace will soon make up the difference and even pay for itself in the end.

Investing in a high efficiency natural gas furnace is well worth it, and let's not forget the environment. An energy efficient furnace will use less fuel, which means using less natural resources, and which means releasing less greenhouse gases into our fragile atmosphere. That's a cost that can't be calculated in dollars.

These days, gas furnaces have stickers on them which gives their AFUE number. AFUE stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. A high efficiency natural gas furnace will have a AFUE number ranging from the high 80's to the high 90's. Furnaces with AFUE's below that range are considered medium efficiency. Such furnaces cost less but will also save you less in bills.

Another thing to look for when shopping for a high efficiency natural gas furnace is an Energy Star sticker. If it has an Energy Star label, that means its AFUE rating is in the 90's.

Remember, no matter how energy efficient your furnace is, you need to maintain it properly and keep it, along with your vents clean. A dirty or poorly maintained furnace will cause a drop in efficiency and increases in cost and fuel consumption.

Air Conditioners

There are three types of air conditioning; central, split-system and portable. Both cool your home using a cold indoor coil called an evaporator. The evaporator works with a condenser and a pump to create cool airs. In order to reap the most benefits from your air conditioner you need to know the proper size you need for your home.

A room air conditioner cools rooms. The size of a room air conditioner determines how many rooms it will cool. Those drawing less than 7.5 amps of electricity can be plugged into and 15 0r 20 amps, 115-volt household circuit, but larger air conditioners needs its own 115-volt circuit. Some require as much as 230-volt circuit. In warm climates, most homes are equipped with central air conditioning that circulates cool air through a system of supply and return ducts.

A central air conditioner can be split or a packaged unit. The split-system has an outdoor metal cabinet that holds the condenser and compressor. An indoor cabinet has the evaporator in it and contains a furnace or the indoor part of a heat pump. If you already have a furnace but no air conditioner, a split-system is the best wall to install air conditioning. Packaged central air has one cabinet that holds the evaporator, condenser and compressor. The air supply and the return ducts are inside the home's exterior wall or roof and connect to the packaged air conditioner. They often include electric heating coils or natural gas eliminating the need for a separate furnace.

Water Heaters

There are several types of water heaters. These include storage water heaters, demand, or instantaneous water heaters, heat pump water heaters, indirect water heaters, and solar water heaters.

Among these types, the storage water heaters are the most common type in the United States. A storage water heater ranges in size from 20 to 80 gallons and is fueled by natural gas, electricity, propane, or oil. Basically, they work by heating up water in an insulated tank. Although most people use this type of water heater, the demand for water heaters continues to grow in the United States.

The reason for this growing demand is the many conveniences they offer to consumers. For example, they have eliminated the need for a storage tank by heating water directly, as is the case with a natural gas water heater. But this type of water heater does not make sense in all homes. The three remaining types, although they have their own advantages, are not as popular as the first two types of water heaters.

With the many types of water heaters available, it does pay to choose one that can best satisfy your hot water needs. See to it that your water heater uses as little energy as possible. And whether you are replacing a worn-out existing water heater or looking for a brand new model for your new house or apartment, you must do your research thoroughly to find the water heater that offers the highest level of energy efficiency. Take your time in searching because this will be the key for a successful buy rather than one bought on impulse.

Advice on Moving Refrigerators to a New Home

For many people, how to move larger objects in a house is baffling. To avoid hurting yourself, consider the following advice on moving refrigerators.

Advice on Moving Refrigerators to a New Home

Moving large appliances can be extremely difficult. If you choose to try to move a household on your own (maybe with the help of a few friends, but without the benefit of a professional moving company), getting those heavy appliances out the door and into your new home can be nearly impossible. Washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves and refrigerators all carry the same problems – their heavy weight and unwieldiness make them hard to move from place to place.

Never attempt to move something large, like a refrigerator, alone. Even if you have a dolly and other moving equipment, large pieces of furniture and appliances should always be moved by more than one person (preferably strong people in good shape). Remove all parts, such as handles and hinges, from the appliance – anything that could shake loose or fall off of the refrigerator could end up being dangerous. Carefully store all parts removed from the appliance in a separate box, labeled, so that you'll know where these pieces are when you arrive at your destination.

Fully thaw and defrost your refrigerator and freezer ahead of moving day. This may seem inconvenient, but you'll need to have your appliance thawed before you try to move it, to avoid any problems with melting ice and condensation. Clean your refrigerator as well; it's a lot easier to do this before you move the appliance than after you get it to it's destination. Dry interiors after cleaning. Pack your refrigerator and freezer with soft cloths, lightweight blankets or even stuffed animals – this will help to keep the appliance stable and free of damage, without adding a lot of weight

Steam Cleaners

Steam cleaners are used on carpets; they emit steam to moisterize the carpet before picking up dirt. One of the products that have made a big difference in our usual cleaning routine is a steam cleaner. Steam cleaners have been quite popular because of their versatility and flexibility. They are not only used for household purposes, but for industrial applications as well. This cleaning device is considered one of the most potent and practical tools for cleaning and disinfecting, especially in supermarkets, sports arena, automobile shops and other places commonly visited by people.

Many consumers prefer to use a steam cleaner to other traditional cleaning methods, because of its innumerable advantages in cleaning and sanitizing. Aside from those advantages and benefits, it is a wonder how steam cleaners work. Simple tap water generates heated dry steam that removes dirt embedded in carpets and upholstery.

Another good point of these cleaners is that they do not pose a danger to our environment. Anyone can use them since they are not detrimental to one's health and over all being. These cleaners are not only safe to use, they are also proven effective in taking out the dust and stains along with other noxious waste and allergens.

Hence, you can use steam cleaners for every room in your home. Rugs in your living room will look brand new. If you have carpets in your children's rooms, what better way to keep them safe from unwanted germs. Steam cleaners are particularly helpful if you own pets. Grime and odor simply disappears.

Porter Cable Compressors

Porter-Cable compressors are compressors manufactured by Porter Cable Corporation. Although Porter-Cable compressors are mostly used for homes/small businesses, the manufacturer provides a large range of compressors, each one with its very own characteristics.

First of all, Porter-Cable compressors produce horsepower ranging from 0.8HP up to 7.5HP. The majority of Porter-Cable compressors produce 1 to 2HP.

Regarding the external characteristics of Porter-Cable compressors, they all come with a built-in red tank, and they are equipped with wheels or extra frames in order to provide better mobility solutions. The smallest compressors do not occupy more volume than a mini-table does, while the bigger ones are of the same size as a normal table or a medium-sized refrigerator.

Another characteristic among the various Porter-Cable compressors that has great impact on the final size of the compressor is tank size, which is measured in gallons. The smallest tank size is four gallons (~15.4 liters), while the largest is 80 gallons (~302.9 liters). There are three major categories of tank sizes. The first one is 4 to 6 gallons (~15.4 to 22.72 liters), the second is 15 to 20 gallons (~56.79 to 75.72 liters) and the third is 60 to 80 gallons (~227.17 to 302.9 liters).

An important distinguishing characteristic of Porter-Cable compressors is whether they are oil-lubricated or oil-free. Although most Porter-Cable compressors are oil-free, the ones with the highest capacity and horsepower are not. To be specific, all compressors that have a capacity greater than 60 gallons are oil-lubricated. Smaller tank capacity compressors come in both oil-lubricated and oil-free models.

Finally, the compressors come with standard equipment such as mobility kits, ASME safety valves, air regulators and gauges, operation manuals, frames (for increased mobility), and oil.

Pressure Gauges

Pressure gauges are the gauges used to monitor the pressure being exerted by a certain operation. There have been developments in enhancing the functions of pressure gauges in terms of measuring the increase or decrease in pressure level.

Pressure gauges have two classifications, the direct reading and the indirect reading. For the direct reading gauges, particle flux that incidentally touches the surface yields some form of pressure and the level of this force employed on the exterior is calculated. For the indirect reading gauges, the pressure results when a certain gas property is altered by the gas density in the usual manner.

Plants, whether power plants, mills or factories, are the common users of pressure gauges. Pressure gauges are present in the fluid system where there are spray nozzles and pumps. Pressure gauges that are properly maintained can lead to a long period of service for the plant. Assuming that the pressure gauge installed is of the appropriate size and design, you can expect that it will function accurately and smoothly.

There are two types of pressure gauges that are most commonly used. These are the traditional or regular and the filled gauges. The traditional or regular gauges are prone to the onset of the usual causes of gauge failures, which are water condensation as well as pipe vibration. Traditional or regular gauges have sensitive pinions, pivots and connecting links. Filled gauges are more reliable given its longer service life. The housing utilizes viscous oil that offsets the effects of both piper vibration and water condensation. In terms of their precision or accuracy, pressure gauges may be labeled as follows, from grade 4A or with 0.1% permissible error, up to grade D or with 5% permissible error.

Accessories are available that can protect pressure gauges. These helpful devices include the shutoff valve, snubbers or pulsation dampeners, pipe coils or siphons, and chemical seals. Pressure gauges equipped with these accessories are likely to help operate a plant efficiently.

A Look At The Beginning Of Refrigerators And How They Have Advanced Today

For almost a hundred years now, no home has been complete without a freezer refrigerator. They first became widely available in the 1920's. The fridge, as its affectionately known, has become as necessary in today's home as the toilet or the walls and roof, for that matter. There are many types of freezer refrigerators. If you're old enough to remember them, or have come across one in an antique shop or junk yard, freezer refrigerators used to be made with the freezer built inside the refrigerated compartment. You had to open the fridge to get to the freezer. Modern freezer refrigerators can basically be broken down into three categories: side-by-side models, top freezer refrigerators, and bottom freezer refrigerators.

Side-by-side refrigerators are pretty popular, but they're not all that convenient for someone who stores a lot of food in their freezer. If you have such a refrigerator and plan on doing a lot of freezing, then you're probably going to have to invest in a chest-style reach-in freezer. The narrow door on such refrigerators can make accessing your food somewhat difficult.

Top freezer refrigerators may be the most common style of fridge. These, of course, have the main refrigerator compartment on the bottom and the freezer on top. Unless you're really short, the food is kept at a convenient height. The wide door makes accessing your food relatively easy. The wide-open freezer area can store a fair amount of food and not restrict you to a bunch of narrow shelves.

Bottom freezer refrigerators place the freezer beneath the refrigerated compartment. Of all the designs, the bottom freezer refrigerator makes the most sense. Warm air is less dense than cold air so heat rises and cold sinks. Given this truism, don't you think it'd make the most sense to put the coldest part of a freezer refrigerator on the bottom and the warmer part on top? Well, to many of us this does, indeed, make the most sense, and that's why the bottom freezer refrigerator has become increasingly popular in recent years. Because of this basic law of physics, bottom freezer refrigerators are the most efficient refrigerator design. Such efficiency means more money in your pocket because your electric bills will go down. Plus, these days we need to be more concerned with energy conservation as it pertains not just to your wallet, but to the environment as well. The less energy we use, the less fossil fuels we consume, and the less greenhouse gases we emit into our fragile atmosphere.

Room Air Conditioners

Room air conditioners are ideal for any kind of room and are the most sought-after type of air conditioners in the industry. They pamper you with cool, crisp and clean air and make your living space a more comfortable one to live in.

They come in different types to serve everyone's purposes. You have window models and wall mount models. Window models include the ordinary double-hung model and casement window models. Double-hung models can be fit in wider window spaces. Casement window models are for narrower spaces. You may have to remove the window panel during installation. Window models can be changed from place to place, as they are easy to install. Wall mount models are enclosed in the wall in sleeves or holes made in the wall. They are more of permanent fixtures, so a lot of time and effort goes into the installation. They come with lots of features like noise-free functioning capacity, timers, filters, dehumidifying capacity, adjustable air-flows, remote controls, etc.

There are a few things you have to consider when purchasing a room air conditioner. The air conditioner should fit the size of the room; a smaller one for a larger room results in excessive running and a larger one for a smaller room results in excessive cooling. You can estimate the number of BTUs required to make your room cool and get a room air conditioner with that number of BTUs. If you move a lot you should go with window models, as you can just take them out of the window and move them with you.

Price has never been a hitch in the case of room air conditioners. They are available in a multitude of lower to higher price ranges. As far as these air conditioners are concerned, the more you pay, the more you get, and the less you pay, still the more you get.

Bosch Into Everything, Bosch Into Fridges

Bosch has been a key pioneer in the field of consumer household devices (and not only!) for many years. During the last years, Bosch has not only managed to keep up with the stiff competition of the field but they have also managed to stay on the top spots, innovate and always with the ability to deliver top quality products. Below, I’m going to tell you about 2 of Bosch’s best consumer fridges, the Bosch KGU31125g and the Bosch KVG28325.

Starting off with the KGU, the first thing that you would be surprised off about this fridge is that it’s really, really silent! This fridge is so silent that you would hardly notice its presence if it wasn’t for its vast, physical existence. The fridge by itself is divided into 2 ‘floors’ with 2 doors positioned in a vertical setup. Although the size of the fridge is considerable, it’s pretty easy to install and use. The size also accounts for a very satisfying interior space witch will fit the needs of the most demanding customers. Some good extra points about this fridge are brought by the fact that it comes with a 2 year warranty by the manufacturer and you can also purchase additional warranty for the coming years. Another special feature that you will not miss for sure is a useful bottle rack that this fridge comes with. Regarding the price, this is a very affordable fridge and if you don’t mind the fact that it doesn’t come with a fancy color then this is something you should definitely keep your eyes on when the time has come to buy a new fridge.

Jumping on the KVG now, there are many things to tell about this fridge. First of all, like the KGU this is a very silent fridge. The KVG features a large - capacity interior design witch is divided into different temperature zones. Apart from that, the KVG features a fantastic fast freeze switch witch will cool the freezer up to -35 degrees C. Another good point about the KVG is that it has 6 shelf slots and 3 shelves. The shelves are made out of glass and this is something that will help you a lot when you are trying to see the contents of the fruit baskets. Regarding other aspects of the fridge, a good feature is the 2 built-in wheels that will enable you to easily maneuver it. You might want to consider the anti-frost feature that this fridge lacks but apart from that everything is almost perfect

Ovens - The Right One For Your Kitchen

Now more than ever because of the different types of cooking methods and the styles of ovens available people are becoming confused over which is the best oven option for them when redesigning or building a new kitchen in their homes. Hopefully the information provided below will help to make the decision on what is the right oven for your kitchen much easier.

Firstly we come to the conventional oven which normally uses either gas or electric (heating element) to provide heat to the oven for cooking food. Unfortunately with this style of oven there seems to be one problem which is that the heat does not always get dissipated evenly throughout the oven and you may find that you can only cook one dish at a time (even if you have the space for more).

Next we come to the convection oven, which uses a fan inside to move the hot air around the oven and this results in a more even heat being dissipated around the whole oven, which means that all the shelves can be used effectively. Another advantage of a convection oven is that they are more energy efficient, not only do they reach the required temperature faster, but they can also be used for cooking at lower temperatures as well. As previously mentioned these styles of ovens have either a fan assisted or fan forced delivery system for dissipating the heat more evenly around the oven. For those ovens that are fan assisted you will find that the heating element/gas flame and fan are separate usually the heating source is at the bottom of the oven and the fan at the back. Whilst if you have a fan forced oven then you will find that both the heating element/gas flame is surrounded by the fan. In some cases you may even find that your oven is a combination oven meaning it is both a conventional and convection oven. Then there are some combination ovens that are both a microwave and convection oven as well and this has a number of advantages over a normal convection oven, not only can food be cooked quicker in it but you will discover that even less energy is used than a normal convection oven.

Another thing that needs to be considered when looking to purchase an oven for your kitchen is the space where it will be located. Some ovens can be installed in a wall, others under a counter and there are those that are part of a traditional stove/oven combination unit. Then other people will look at just how easy the oven will be to clean. A standard oven will have to be cleaned the old fashioned way (using oven cleaner, scrubbing pad and a good deal of elbow grease). However, if you want you could purchase self cleaning ovens which are provided with a super high temperature setting which is used when the oven is empty and the door is locked. This style of oven will burn off any food left in the oven until it turns to ash and all you have to do is wipe it out using a damp sponge or cloth. But if you don’t want to get dirty, and then consider using your vacuum cleaner to get rid of the ash and dust that has been made. Or it may be you decide to purchase a continuous cleaning oven which has a special surface that helps to absorb and spread out any spills that appear during cooking which can be burned off at a lower temperature. These styles of ovens can be cleaned periodically with just either a damp sponge or cloth just like the self cleaning oven. Unfortunately any larger spills that occur in this type of oven will have to be removed using the traditional method of using oven cleaner and elbow grease. It is wise to clean up any spills as soon as possible else if left too long they will become a permanent feature of the oven.

Plastic Trash Cans

Just imagine the world without incinerators, garbage cans, trash cans and other similar items. It is disgusting to think of dirt and garbage scattered all over the streets, parks, homes, and everywhere. The many things that it could do to us are horrifying. The garbage must be dumped in the proper place or else they would infest the world with sickening consequences.

If we would want to prevent those unlikely consequences from pestering us, organizing the presence of garbage and litters properly should begin in the smaller places such as our households, small offices, and other establishments. In this way, the garbage is not given any chance to grow into huge accumulations. Since these edifices don't require large bins for their waste, trash cans are the most ideal to be utilized.

Trash cans come in various kinds with different materials used. They are available in various colors, designs, styles, and sizes. Although, there are numerous items for this product, they are all basically the same. The only difference is the design and the cost. They would all provide the same utilitarian purposes. But while others are designed for such use alone, there are others that would double-up as a decoration piece.

If you want an affordable yet durable trash can, plastic is perfect. Unlike the others, a plastic trash can may be brought to any outdoor activities such as picnics, beach, or in the backyard for your barbecue party because they are weatherproof. They can withstand any kind of weather, whether on a sunny day or even when rain has suddenly poured. Plastic cans are not a hassle to bring along, as they are as lightweight and durable.

They can also be used everywhere, from bedroom, kitchen, and backyard to garage, offices, bathroom and others. You need not worry over the space it will use up. They can be pushed under the table and can even fit in the corner of the room. When you are going to empty it, you can just easily haul the trash out and wash the bin with water and soap.

Plastic trash cans are perfect choice when a combination of functionality and practicality matters to you. And if you think they would not serve in any aesthetical purposes, there are also choices of these in the market. You can pick one with color and design that would complement the location to where it would be situated.

How Often Do We Need To Have Our Furnaces Cleaned

For those people who live in area's of the country that gets cold, it's time to think about your heating equipment. With the technology new furnaces have today there isn't much to do on them as far as setting them up for winter. In the old days (10 years ago and before) we were told to have our furnaces and boilers checked once a year. But now furnaces and boilers have electronics doing most of the work. There are only a couple of things that a service tech needs to do in today's furnaces and boilers as far as a "clean and check" goes.

The old days:

In the old days when a service man (politically correct term today is "service tech" this term started about 21 years ago) when out on a "clean and check," he had all kinds of things to do. First he pulled out all the burners and blew them out with co2, then he checked the heat exchanger for cracks using a mirror, then vacuumed up any dirt he found. He also changed the "thermocouple" (on a standing pilot, where the pilot flame burns all the time, the thermocouple tells the gas valve there is a pilot light, and it's ok to open, and start the heat sequence) on the "pilot light" and blew out the pilot light assembly to make sure it would burn clean and that the pilot flame was positioned correctly on the thermocouple, and on the burner pilot runner.

After that he pulled the blower, and if it was a belt drive blower, oiled the squirrel cage bearings, motor bearings, and checked the belt for cracks . On a "direct drive blower" all he had to do was just oil the bearings on the motor.

Now all the burners are cleaned and the heat exchanger has been checked for cracks and everything is back in place, including the blower. On to the next step.

Now, if the service man was worth his salt, he checks the most important part of the furnace, the "limit switch". There's a limit switch in every; gas, oil, electric, or propane furnace, or boiler. It's main function is to turn on the blower (usually 200') and shut it off (around 110 or 100' any cooler, and you would feel like there was a draft) and the most important job it has is to tell the "gas valve" to shut down the burners incase the blower fails. It keeps the furnace or boiler (boilers also have a "safety relief valve" like hot water heaters) from over heating and starting a fire.

What the better guys did was pull the blower wire off the limit switch and start the furnace burners. With the blower wire pulled off the limit switch, the blower can't start, and when the furnaces gets to about 200 degrees, the burners should shut off and not relight again until the furnaces cools and lowers it's temperature to about 140 degrees. Some guys just checked the limit switch by rotating the dial on the limit switch and blower settings until the burners shut off. I liked taking the wire off the limit switch and testing it that way because it was more real life working conditions in the event of blower failure.

One of the last things, and just as important as checking the limit switch, was to check the "flue pipe" to make sure it, or the chimney, hasn't been blocked by soot or birds. It wasn't uncommon to find dead birds in the flue. Some even made it into people's basements. This doesn't happen anymore with the new furnaces. And the very last thing that was done was to check for gas leaks.

Furnaces 10 years ago to the present:

Today's furnaces and boilers don't need the kind of attention from the service man like furnaces of the past did. On most modern furnaces all that needs to be checked is the "flame sensor". The furnaces of today pretty much watch themselves. The burners almost never get dirty now a days because they are working in a mostly closed (80 plus furnaces are not, but the 90's are) environment. The blower, gas valve, and all the safety controls (including the "limit switch" and "blower switch") are run by a circuit board. The blowers are all sealed now too. They don't even need to be oiled!

So how often do we want our furnaces and boilers checked?

That's a tough question. It all depends on the environment your furnace is running in. It your furnace or boiler is running in an environment that has a lot of dust or animal hair, then it mite be worth it to have your furnace checked once a year. If your furnace is running in a relatively clean environment, you can probably get away with 2 or 3 years of not having to have to spend the money to have a clean furnace checked.

Don't forget that these new furnaces shut down when they spot the slightest problem. Some tech guys feel the only real time for home owners to have their furnaces ( don't forget where're talking new furnaces not the old clunkers) checked, is when they don't start. They don't think the cost justifies what your getting in return.

Removing Particles from Air-Conditioning Systems

Do you know that air-conditioning involves more than controlling the temperature of the air? For stringent climate control, the relative humidity, smells and dusts are also controlled.

Today's topic is on air conditioning filters. These are the tools to control dust particles from entering the air-conditioned space. "Dust" could be a misnomer when we enter into the world of cleanrooms. Even tobacco smoke and bacteria are particles that can be filtered off!

Prefilters

Having efficiencies ranging from 50% to 85%, prefilters are used for protection against accumulations of textile fibres and insects. They are ineffective in separating smoke, pollen and staining particles like soot, oil mist.

Those with efficiencies above 85% are able to collect pollen and have some limited effect against smoke and staining particles. These are used in dehumidification systems.

In textile industries, prefilters are used in air-conditioning systems to protect heat exchangers, humidifiers and fans. Window mounted air-conditioning units use them for protecting the evaporator coils. Those with 85% efficiencies are used to control dusts from entering food handling premises and kitchens.

Fine filters

Fine filters are those with efficiencies ranging from 40% to 98%. Those in the 90% to 98% range are very effective against staining particles like soot and oil mist. They are also very effective against bacteria.

Their users includes air-conditioning for schools, kitchens, filing rooms, light engineering workshops, restaurants, and air curtains for food shops.

The higher ranges are suitable for operating theatres, laboratories, and computers.

Absolute filters

Absolute filters are the most efficient filters around with efficiencies ranging from 85% to more than 99.97%

They are highly efficient in collecting bacteria, radioactive dusts and all kinds of smoke and aerosols.

They are used for constant climate precision measurement or calibrating rooms, special clean air laboratories, operating theatres, sterilization rooms, and clean rooms.

Basic Dishwasher Installation Tips

Installing a built-in dishwasher requires basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills, so the average handy person can install a dishwasher in 1 to 3 hours depending on if it is a new installation or a replacement dishwasher. If you are replacing an existing dishwasher, it will take less time.

New Installation

1. Prepare the cabinet area in which the dishwasher will be installed. The opening should be 24 inches wide for most models, 24 inches deep and 34 1/2" from the floor to the underside of the countertop. The back wall can not have pipes or wires on it. The power and water supply lines will come into the cabinet in the 4"X4" area at the bottom back of the cabinet through a 1 1/2" hole. Make sure the floor is level and the cabinet is squared.

2. Choose your drain method based on your local codes and height of the drain tee. Some codes require an air gap. If the drain tee is less than 18 inches from the floor, you must use an air gap. If an air gap is not required and the tee is over 18 inches from the floor, you can use the loop method for the drain connection. If the drain hose will be connected to a garbage disposal, you have to remove the knock out plug so that the dishwasher will drain.

3. Inspect or install wiring by making sure there is a 120V, 60Hz dedicated circuit with a 15 or 20-amp breaker or time delay fuse. Wiring has to be 2 wire with a ground and rated for 75 degrees Celcius or 176 degrees Farenheit. The wiring can come into the cabinet from either side in the rear bottom area. The hole should be a maximum of 1 1/2", and it can be the same hole used the the water supply line and drain hose if its being hardwired. If it is a flexible power cord, it must have a separate hole. Hardwiring cable will come up the right side along the bottom 24 inches of the cabinet to the right front electrical connection on the dishwasher.

4. Prepare the water supply line that enters through the 1 1/2" hole in the rear bottom of the cabinet. Turn off the water to install a hand shut-off valve under the sink. The water connection is on the left side of the dishwasher. Use 3/8" O.D. copper line to extend a minimum of 19 inches from the rear wall. The water heater should be set between 120 and 150 degrees (closer to 120 if children are in the home to prevent scalding accidents) and the pressure should be between 20-120 PSI.

5. Prepare the dishwasher by checking the door balance and adjusting the spring tension if necessary. If the legs have to be attached, do that close to where it will be installed.

6. Connect the drain hose to the dishwasher's drain port if it did not come factory-installed. Position the electrical wiring and water supply lines so that the base of the dishwasher will not catch them. Slide the dishwasher in front of the opening so that you can feed the drain hose through the hole you drilled for it.

7. Inch-by-inch slide the dishwasher into the cabinet as you fee the drain hose through its hole. Stop with a few inches left and make sure nothing is kinked or pinched. If all is in good order, push the dishwasher all the way in so that the edges of the door are behind the cabinet frame. Test the door for smooth opening and closing.

8. Level the dishwasher front to back and side to side by adjusting the leveling legs.

9. Align the brackets and secure the dishwasher to the countertop according the manufacturer's instructions.

10. Through the access panel, connect the water supply line and electrical supply. Also connect the drain hose under the sink. You are ready to do a wet test with the "rinse only" cycle. Check for leaks and proper draining.

Replacing an Existing Dishwasher

You will not need to drill the holes since they will already be there from the existing dishwasher. However, you do need to inspect the wiring and plumbing to make sure they are capable of servicing the new dishwasher. Once that is established you should turn the power off at the main and turn the water supply off before beginning the removal of the old dishwasher. All lines and wires must first be disconnected. Take the drain hose off the garbage disposal or drain pipe under the sink. If the dishwasher has a power cord, you need to unplug it. If the dishwasher is hardwired, you have to open the access panel and electrical junction box. Remove the wire nuts and disconnect the black and white wires. Also remove the ground screw to disconnect the green ground wire. Use a catch pan while disconnecting the water supply line. Once all of these lines and wires have been disconnected, you can take out the screws and brackets that hold the dishwasher in its place and carefully pull out the old dishwasher.

Clean Your Carpet At A Fraction Of The Cost By Renting A Carpet Cleaning Steam Cleaner

If you have ever had your carpets professionally cleaned you will know how expensive an experience it can be. Whether it be a steam clean or a dry clean, finding any sort of complete carpet cleaning solution can quickly burn a hole in your pocket. Couple this with the fact that carpets if maintained properly require cleaning at least every 12 months and there is a problem. What many people don’t know is that there are various options available to effectively clean your carpets yourself, almost without spending a dime. This article will look at some of the home based carpet cleaning solutions and offer tips on how to save money on your carpet cleaning forever.

Before we get into the good stuff, a carpet cleaning solution that should be noted is the rental and use of carpet cleaning machinery to do the job yourself. While this will still cost you money, you will usually save a great deal from a professional carpet clean. If you get some good instructions on exactly how to execute the process you can certainly come out on top.

Ok but how can we get our carpets cleaned without any financial outlay? Keep in mind that most of these natural carpet cleaning solutions will require the use of a carpet cleaning device that are available from all good retailers. Usually the difference between using one of these and a professional is the quality of results but it doesn’t have to be.

The first and most effective carpet cleaning solution is a combination of a number of ingredients to your steam cleaner. For example if you add 3 teaspoons of clear dishwashing liquid, 1/4 cup of ammonia, and 1/4 cup of vinegar to a few gallons of water, you should be able to remove most stains from your carpets. Another super simple remedy that has been used with success is a mixture of vinegar and hot water in equal parts. Professional carpet cleaners have acknowledged this as an effective carpet cleaning solution also.

There are also some great carpet cleaning solutions that can kill odors as well as remove dirt from your carpets. For example one scoop of OxiClean, or one cup of generic Fabreeze and the recommended hot water will remove really tough odors from most carpets or couches. This is used instead of vinegar because vinegar itself leaves a strong smell and takes more time before the cleaned object is once again usable.

Even further, there are options available that can allow you to remove unsightly stains when you don’t need the entire carpet cleaned. Some people have successfully used club soda poured onto the stain and blotted dry with a towel while others have simply used extremely hot water and some elbow grease as an effective one off carpet cleaning solution.

Air Purifiers - A First Time Buyers Guide

The aim of keeping an air purifier is to free the air from all of the contaminants. When environmental researchers highlighted the fact that the indoor air is dirtier than the outdoor air, the popularity and the demand for air purifiers soared. Air purifiers will be helpful to persons suffering from allergies and asthma and to those who want to reduce the risk of passive smoking.

Air purifiers on the market use various different techniques for purification of the air. Electrostatic charges, ionizers, charcoal and absorbents are some of the methods used to purify the air. Germicidal ultra violet light is also used for this purpose. Find more info at www.onlyairpurifiers.info

Visual appeal, noise level and filter replacement frequency are some of the factors to be taken into account when selecting an air purifier. Filters also come in many different varieties. Some of them can be cleaned by hand, water or by vacuuming. Some of these filters need to be replaced within months depending upon the usage.

Air purifiers filtering out 99.97 percent of particles of 0.3 micrometers in the air are set as the best air purifier. These types of purifiers are very expensive.

The Association of Home Appliance Manufactures (AHAM) is the agency rating the performance of various air purifiers. The indicator used is the clean air delivery rating. There is some controversy over the claim involving ionic air purifiers since these machines generate the pollutant ozone. High concentration of ozone emitted by the air purifiers can pose some threat to health.

According to the American Lung Association, the effectiveness of an air purifier depends on the unit's efficiency and the amount of air drawn through it. Look into the type of pollutants it will capture and the percentage it captures. Select a device that circulates air many times an hour. .

Besides air circulation, ensure to consider other factors such as:

- Can it move air from all corners of the room

- Size of the room

- Whether the air purifier is meant for any specific problem such as smoke or pollen.

- Adaptability to the change in needs.

Cost of an air purifier and its efficiency are not related. Recurring costs are also to be taken into account. The energy needed to run the purifier will make quite a lot of difference to the power bill. Noise can be a big problem if the air purifier is meant for use in a bedroom or in the family room, since many air purifiers use loud motors to draw air through filters.

Air Cleaner Basics: Factors To Consider

When purchasing an air cleaner or an air cleaning system, it is important to take into account several different factors that could very definitely affect your purchasing decision. As with all products, there is a need for installation and maintenance. Also, you’ll need to compare the initial cost of available units. Do any of the air cleaners you are considering produce additional pollutants or re-disperse those it has removed back into the air? Consider if any claim to be able to remove all odors and if there are any cases of complaint that the cleaner you have in mind has ever soiled wall and other surfaces.

Be sure that the installation of the air cleaner you choose is simplistic and that you can complete the process correctly without questions. Of course, you’ll want to comparison shop, looking at different models to contrast their efficiency levels, volume capacity, and especially price. However, the initial cost is not the only price you should be concerned with, as all air cleaners need regular maintenance to keep up a good functionality. If heavy or expensive maintenance is required, it may not be worth the sale price.

Once an air filter catches and removes polluting particles from the air, they should be trapped and not redistributed by the device. What good does it do to remove a harmful substance from our air source if it’s going to get kicked right back into it? Other costs to consider are operational costs (such as added electricity to power the unit) that will not disappear and will probably only increase with rising energy rates as time goes on.

Not all odors will be removed, as air filters don’t remove gaseous pollutants, which are often the smelliest. You may also be concerned with the knowledge that some air cleaners tend to soil the walls through the ionization

Outstanding Details About How To Charge Personal Air Coolers

If you are wondering about how to charge air coolers, then here is a simple solution. The air coolers can be charged with batteries that make the coolers work effectively. Make sure that you keep the batteries cooler when you are charging them so that it can be used faster again. The coolers can be best charged with a specific battery that implements patented new air-cooled charging technology in the coolers. This system enables the battery to automatically get cooled down during the charging process.

The natural process of charging ensures that the batteries will get heated up when it have already worked for sometime, thereby preventing immediate and effective recharge of the batteries. This was a disadvantage evident in the batteries used previously to charge the air coolers. So a thorough research was conducted and the modern battery was discovered that helped in the charging of the air coolers in an effective way. You can charge your air coolers with these batteries as they help in quick charging and immediately make re-charging of the air coolers possible.

How does the battery work?

The charging process conducted by the batteries is hi-tech and so the coolers get effective charging. The charging occurs through an array of ducts present in the battery and for a fan present in the interiors of the charger that draws in cool air from the nearby spaces through the battery cells and then out of the charger. The charging process by these batteries, thus, gets 30% quicker and the batteries also last longer. This considerably saves your time as you can avoid the problems of waiting for your batteries of your air cooler to get charged.

Another outstanding feature of the air cooler chargers is the refresh button function that automatically brings the performance-impairing unbalanced charge levels of the cells back into one line. However, this cell-balancing system should be conducted once in every two weeks when it is heavily used and once a month when the coolers are moderately used. These batteries can offer power ranging from 12 V! In conjunction with Li-Power technology to the coolers while it is getting charged. So these batteries are the most effective air cooler chargers for all.

Other Batteries for Charging your Air Cooler

If you use your air cooler on less frequent intervals, then you can take the help of other charging batteries to charge the air coolers. These batteries allow the air cooler to get charged for an extended period of 15 minutes right after a power cut. You can conveniently use these batteries in any of the air cooler models and they promise 30 to 80 hours of constant cooling process. That saves your money and power to a great extent. These are more commonly known as back-up system batteries that not only charge the air coolers conveniently but also make a big difference in your comfort level and budgetary matters.

Finding The Very Best Kitchen Appliances For Your Home

Most apartment kitchens are already supplied with stoves and refrigerators included. However, if you need a new stove, microwave, or refrigerator there are many types of such appliances that are good buys, you just need to know what brand, size, and type etc. that you need. Here are some ideas to get you started if you are looking for new stoves, refrigerators, microwaves or other kitchen appliances:

* Refrigerators:

Refrigerators are essential kitchen appliances

§ The most popular and convenient refrigerators are side-by-side as opposed to the actual fridge part being on the bottom and the freezer on top or vice versa.

§ Water and ice dispensers on the outside of the door are a very nice touch that make water and, if you choose, ice water easily accessible.

§ There are even refrigerators, such as ones GE has designed, that are shallower in depth than traditional model refrigerators, which making it much easier to seek and reach for things stored at the back of fridge. As you probably know, food can go bad way back there, usually because you never see it when you look around for something to eat.

And of course, there are much smaller refrigerators that are not so much kitchen appliances as they are conveniences for the office, dorm rooms or recreational vehicles etc. These items are very handy in a lot of ways, and designed especially for the purposes I just mentioned. Virtually all kitchen appliance manufacturers offer such items.

· The dishwasher:

Most dishwashers come with push button controls or simple to use dials in the front. Dishwashers in general are fairly accessible appliances, but sometimes you will want to do a little research on the reliability of such kitchen appliances before purchasing your dishwasher.

Dishwashers are usually at least 34" high and will fit perfectly beneath a standard 36" high counter. Unfortunately, standards kitchen appliances do not work for everybody.

For example:

Some people are very tall and have trouble bending. In these cases the person should try to have a higher dishwasher installed, (and often will have higher counters as well). This approach will make their experience in their kitchens a whole lot less painful—and such accommodations for the installation of kitchen appliances is sometimes even doctor recommended.

For another example:

People who use wheelchairs often find it easier and more accessible to have a kitchen counter that has provides space underneath it so that they can pull their wheelchair right up to the counter like a chair. Thus the size of the dishwasher they choose to purchase will have to be carefully considered.

· The stove:

Of all kitchen appliances the stove is one of the most important. There are plenty of kitchen appliance manufacturers currently designing burners and ovens especially with different kinds of accessibility in mind.

§ Knobs:

Sometimes there are knobs or push-button controls in the front of the stove. This way the user does not ever have to reach across a hot burner while cooking.

§ Ceramic cooktop units:

Another great kind of stove is the type of stove or burners with flat surfaces. These kitchen appliances allow you to easily slide pots and pans from one area to another, and are incredibly easy to clean up after.

· Ovens:

The way that the oven door opens is also very important.

§ Many ovens have a door that pulls downward. This sort of door will provide a very convenient transitional shelf.

§ On the other hand, some consumers prefer a door that swings to the left or to the right. This may seem to allow him or her better access to the oven racks inside.

* Microwaves:

Microwaves are kitchen appliances that are safer and much less expensive than other kitchen appliances. They are easier to operate than conventional ovens especially because you set the cook time and the microwave immediately turns itself off. This is a great feature for the forgetful cook. Sure you can set a timer for your oven, but the oven stays hot and if you do not hear the dinger—supper may be burned, and you may even have to disconnect the smoke alarm. But with a microwave oven, the item you have heated up will just sit there, waiting for you to remember it.

§ Look for features like a microwave with a door release that can be simply pushed shut.

§ Many microwaves have pads for programming the operation you need, such as cooking popcorn, re-heating soup or beverages, defrosting frozen leftovers etc. These pads are terrific, unless you have low vision. Or you can, of course, set your own time and heat levels with the number and cooking level pads.

§ Some microwaves have a timer dial rather than a touch pad.

* Smaller conveniences:

Other kinds of kitchen appliances are not necessary, but make for great accessories and can be incredibly useful in the kitchen. Without some of these smaller and less essential kitchen appliances, there are some things that you will not be able to make.

§ In-sink garbage disposers:

It is easy to become dependant on in-sink water dispensers. Once you get used to not having to scrape off the remains of your meal on or in your dishes into the trashcan it becomes habitual to take the dishes straight to the kitchen sink. If you do this without an in sink garbage dispenser your drain will get clogged—and quickly.

In sink garbage disposals are designed especially to dispose of food waste easily. And they will help your trashcans smell better longer, for lack of rotting food collecting inside.

§ Instant hot water dispensers:

Instant hot water dispensers can be a great convenience for those who need quick access for things like coffee or soup. However, it takes only a minute or two more to heat your water in the microwave. Accessories such as instant hot water dispensers are a fancy touch to add to your kitchen for extra convenience.

There are many kitchen appliances to choose from that I have not mentioned here. Popular and smaller items such as blenders, coffee makers, espresso machines, mixers, egg timers and more are great items to own, though not essential. Whatever kitchen appliances you choose to purchase for your kitchen, make sure they are in high quality condition and will be long lasting for your convenience.

Countertop Dishwasher

Of all the inventions made for the kitchen, the dishwasher would rank as one the top ones. No more scrubbing and rinsing and drying off plates and cups and utensils after a good meal. A dishwasher is especially for city folk who are on the go all day and all week. You can grab a meal on the go, prep them up on proper tableware and then clean off the tableware in a dishwasher. No fuss, no mess. Dishwashers come in several shapes and sizes. There are built-in dishwashers, stand-alone dishwashers and countertop dishwashers.

The countertop dishwasher is perfect for singles, couples or a small family. It is designed to occupy a small area on the kitchen countertop – normally right next to the sink as the countertop dishwasher usually hooks up to the faucet for its source of water. You also need a power point nearby to run the dishwasher. Make sure that you hook up the water pipes tightly though as a loose connection in this area will flood your countertop quite quickly. You also need to make some space in your sink for the draining pipe.

Like most dishwashers, the countertop dishwasher runs on either the tablet type detergent or a combination of dishwasher soap and rinser. When using the tablet type detergent, you would normally not need to get the dishwasher rinsing fluid, as it would have already been included in the tablet. If you are living in parts of the world where hard water is supplied to your home, then you will need to get dishwashing salt as well.

Operating a countertop dishwasher is really very simple. Before putting in your used dishes in the portable dishwasher, make sure that any leftovers are thrown away. Arrange the dishes in the proper places inside the portable dishwasher to ensure maximum cleaning efficiency. Make sure that your dishes are not obstructing the water spraying mechanisms inside the countertop dishwasher. Top up the dishwasher soap and rinsing fluid. Close it up and let the dishwasher run through its cycle. Once done, it is advisable to open the countertop dishwasher door to let the dishes dry. You have the option of air drying it or wiping the dishes dry. Be sure to clean the draining filter once in a while to prevent blockages.

Use Dry Carpet Cleaning Equipment to Avoid Messy Liquids

Looking for a mean of cleaning your carpets without all the liquid chemicals, which can cause spots to reappear as it dries, you may consider dry carpet cleaning equipment as a dryer, cleaner alternative.

While the cleaners used in dry carpet cleaning equipment may still be wet, they generally use a carbonating cleaner to remove stains. Similar to using a club soda on stains in clothing, these carbonating cleaners are used sparingly to break down the dirt and stains in a carpet and are then extracted to be virtually dry immediately after cleaning.

A company called ChemDry, www.chemdry.com, has perfected this method of cleaning and several franchises are locate throughout the company to help make their dry carpet cleaning equipment available for cleaning your carpets. You can have it cleaned in the morning and use it that night.

No Soapy Liquids Left Behind

Typical carpet cleaners use water and liquid detergents to clean. What really happens is that they leave a wet soapy residue to dry on the rug. This wetness becomes a main attraction for dirt and often pulls dirt from under the rug to bring stains to the surface. Another company using dry carpet cleaning equipment is at www.drycarpet.com which uses Swedry cleaners of clean and leave the carpet dry in a matter of minutes.

Since nearly all carpet dirt, an estimated 85 percent, can be removed by vacuuming, this process uses a moistened granular cleaner to get to remaining 15 percent, usually comprised of grease and oils. Using dry carpet cleaning equipment the rug is thoroughly vacuumed before the granules are applied. They break down and absorb the oily dirt and then are vacuumed up with the dry carpet cleaning equipment and removed.

Because the granules are moistened and not wet, the carpet is ready for use at about the same time the dry carpet cleaning equipment is done doing its job. The big secret to dry carpet cleaning equipment is the vacuuming process. By removing all loose dirt from a carpet with a quality vacuum cleaner before using any dry carpet cleaning equipment increase your chance of success at achieving a cleaner, healthier carpet.

While some people insist a carpet isn’t clean unless it has been saturated with wet chemical cleaners, dry carpet cleaning is fast becoming a trend. The ability to clean only a high traffic section of a carpet and blend it in with the rest of the areas or reducing downtime associated with wet carpet cleaning, dry carpet cleaning equipment use is growing at a rapid pace.

Hot Spring Spa

A Hot spring spa is similar to a hot tub. It is a way to relax your body and mind at the end of an arduous day. A hot spring spa can revive a tired and aching body. A hot spring spa works on three principals. Heat, massage, and buoyancy. When you come home at the end of a long day, and sit in a hot spring spa, you are treating yourself to not only a long relaxing soak, you are also being massaged by jets of warm water that are shot out of jet nozzles that are placed around the hot spring spa. By being immersed in the water, over 90% of your body weight is taken off of tired bones and joints, relieving any pressure that you may have. You are literally floating on the water.

The jets of water then massage you, relaxing tired aching muscles. The results are that you feel rejuvenated and ready to face another day. The jets are adjustable, so you can direct them toward whatever part of the body needs them most. Hot spring spas are also great for increasing blood circulation because the hot water raises your body temperature and that in turn dilates the blood vessels allowing better blood flow. Another benefit to a Hot spring spa is that as it relieves pain by releasing endorphins in the body as it relaxes. Endorphins are considered to be the body’s natural painkiller. All who own a Hot spring spa agree that nothing can compare to the feeling of total relaxation you feel after soaking in a hot spring spa.

Doctors use hot spring spa therapy for their patients who suffer from debilitating diseases such as arthritis and fybromialga. Hot spring spas come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can fit up to twelve people. They are set on a base of wood that you choose and can be fit into any size room, no matter how small or odd shaped, or they can be placed in the backyard.

The price ranges of a hot spring spa ranges in price according to the size and amenities that you order with it. The cost of a basic hot spring spa starts at $699.00 and can cost as much as $4,000 dollars. The accessories for hot spring spas are great, and include lights, music, and even video!. Stores can be found in every major city in the United States by looking in the yellow pages under hot tubs. They may also be found on the Internet. However, you may prefer to see the model in person and up close before you actually buy. Going the route of the Internet, just means you may have to travel to view and pick up your spa, so be prepared.

The advantage of a hot spring spa over an average spa is obviously the quality. They are made with the highest quality materials and will outlast a regular fiberglass spa by a long shot. Regular fiberglass spas over time have been known to crack, and are often made with materials that begin to wear out as the years pass. Even though both way allow you to soak in warm water to wash away the day’s aggravation, and both deliver an overall sense of well being when you are done. However, purchasing a hot spring spa is certainly a wise investment and will pay for itself many times over.

Microwave Madness

Seventeen Little-Known Effects Of Your Microwave Oven

Why are we still using our microwave ovens in North America? Why do we heat our baby’s formulas, defrost food, ‘zap’ fast food and ‘nuke’ our cold coffee? Convenience!

If anything will keep you from reading this whole article and then throwing your microwave out, it will be your personal addiction to convenience. I’m afraid though, that your addiction could be making you sick, tired…even slowly killing you.

Here are seventeen scientifically proven test results that have been hidden or repressed over the years:

1. Microwaving milk and cereal grains can convert amino acids into carcinogens.

2. Microwaving meats can create well-know carcinogen, plus a degradation of nucleo-proteins.

3. The minerals in vegetables can be changed into cancerous free radicals when cooked in a microwave.

4. Thawing frozen fruits in a microwave oven can create carcinogenic substances.

5. Exposure to microwaves causes a 60-90% decreased food value

6. Male and female hormone production may be altered by the continual eating of microwaved foods.

7. In testing the blood of people who ate microwaved foods, a decrease in red blood cells was found. Red blood cells are the principal means of delivering oxygen from the lungs to body tissues via the blood.

8. In testing the blood of people who ate microwaved foods, an increase in white blood cells was found. This is a sign of poisoning and cell damage.

9. In testing the blood of people who ate microwaved foods, hemoglobin levels were found to have decreased. If hemoglobin is compromised, it can cause anemia and an eventual wasting of the body.

10. In testing the blood of individuals who ate microwaved foods, an increase in cholesterol levels was found.

11. The human body cannot break down the unknown by-products created in foods that have been microwaved.

12. Cancerous cells were seen to increase in human blood when microwaved foods were eaten.

13. Microwaves decrease the body’s ability to use nutrients such as B-complex, vitamin C, E and essential minerals found in all foods.

14. Eating of microwaved foods causes long-term, permanent brain damage by shorting out electrical impulses in the brain causes emotional instability, loss of memory, concentration and a decrease in intelligence.

15. Those ingesting microwaved foods showed a statistically higher incidence of stomach and intestinal cancers and growths of tumors.

16. Microwaving caused chemical alterations in food that affected the lymphatic systems ability to protect itself against cancerous growths.

17. A long term, cumulative loss of vital energies within human, animals and plants that were located within a 500-meter radius of operational equipment, was found.

Nuking and Shaking

When you microwave a food or liquid, the molecules oscillate five billion times a second! This oscillation and agitation is the friction that creates heat, but it also causes substantial damage to the surrounding molecules: tearing them apart or forcefully deforming them.

The field of gene altering technology uses this weakening of cell membranes by microwaves. Because of the extreme force of microwaves, the cells are actually broken, neutralizing the electrical potential: the very life of cells. Damaged cells are easy for fungi, viruses and other microorganisms to invade. The natural repair mechanism is repressed and the damaged cell produces the poisons of hydrogen peroxide and carbon monoxide.

Pull The Plug!

Solid scientific evidence suggests that heating food by microwave robs food of most vital nutrients as well as changing the molecular structure of foods. Eating microwaved foods creates changes in your blood, cells, brain and immune system: with carcinogenic and cancerous implications. Pull the plug!

She is really very proud of her work and she loves most the idea that she determines herself her working hours for Southern Living.

I am always very surprised by the wonderful themes she is presenting at each Southern Living party. The first theme I remember was the classic tea party. She decorated the rooms in a Victorian style.
